There's 1000+ replies about this here and lose to 700 in the FAQ one. Insane.

I seriously considering stopping my subscription. Hopefully they'll see a large spike in usubs and detect that this is a bad idea. Keep it small guys, you were doing fine.

Jeff and the other guys have never let me down before so I trust them that this is something good... but if for some reason this turn out really bad then I'm not worried because Jeff and the other guys have never let me down.

After watching Jeff on the lifestream I've got to say i'm along for the ride. I'm tempted to save up and subscribe to show my support for this. Its like being a fan for anything. You can't just winge when stuff changes. When newcastle went down the fans rallied around stronger.

Well, looking at this after seeing Tested's video, my mind is not blown as much. But still a little. 
 
Congrats on these happenings! I was sceptical back when you moved into the bigger basement, I was sceptical when premium memberships were introduced. And, I've gotta admit,  I'm a bit sceptical now. But you came through every single time in the past. And I look forward to seeing what's in store this time.

After watching the livestream on GS with Jeff, I'm feeling 100% more optimistic about this.

Especially if Giant Bomb blows most of their increased budget on booze.

@Nihilius: Maybe from the outside, but none of us know the real financial situation behind the curtains. For all we know, Whiskey could have been dying, Jeff said sometime back they weren't making anything close to a profit off of Subs.

Whether the acquisition turns out all right remains to be seen, but I believe they are genuinely happy about it. Otherwise, why the fuck would they even do it?

No matter how you try to coat this with pancake syrup, this sounds like crap for the readers. How would aligning with a corporation like CBS be beneficial for your fans that have enjoyed your ability to do whatever you want?

If any of you had cared to read ANYTHING that has been announced, you'd realize that Giant Bomb will have NOTHING to do with Gamespot. Consider this more equipment, more manpower and more money to do what Giant Bomb does.

Yeah. Nice to see a few of these guys get some decent financial compensation for the work they've done, but I don't see how this is good for fans of the site. "Bigger and crazier" is the exact kind of corporate-sounding reassurance that sounds about as trustworthy as...uh, a person that lies a lot.

They already had a "suit" funding their ventures, the owner of Whiskey Media. That owner chose to dissolve WM and sell off parts of it so they need a new home. Stop thinking this is about GB's greed, this is about continued existence, and the fact that they found a place that will let them continue to be their own site and swear as much as they want on camera is pretty lucky.

Oh, and since Whiskey Media was dissolved and the money stream was gone, this ensures that the site isn't just wiped off the face of the planet altogether. That seems like a benefit.

I mean, if you want to assume that a group of journalists who went to do their own thing because they were tired of the evil corporate overlords would then go back to being controlled by said evil overlords, go ahead. But that's a totally illogical conclusion.

exactly. the parent company of giant bomb has changed and they will have more resources at their disposal.

anyone who thinks that jeff and the rest of the crew would risk the integrity of what they have built here just for personal financial gain really know nothing about these people.

i have been following Jeff and Ryan since 1999 and they would not do this if it could possibly affect Giant Bomb in an adverse way

These guys have families and mortgages. I don't blame them even a little for making this decision.

I'm choosing to remain cautiously (very cautiously) optimistic about how this bodes for the overall quality and independence of Giant Bomb.

My first reaction was "OH SHIT WTF", then I realised that the people who fired Jeff aren't working there any more. I imagine most of corporate got shuffled out when CBS Interactive purchased CNET. If they'd done that a year earlier Jeff might not have even been fired, who knows.

Second thought was "wait, is Toister still at Gamespot?". Imagine if he just appeared on a Bombcast. My brain is happy and I trust that Jeff & Ryan know what they're doing. They know GS well.

Being a (somewhat former) Engadget and now Verge reader and listener, and having witnessed the exodus at Engadget because of AOL's operating procedures, I have a hard time believing there won't be any friction, particularly so because of the size difference between the two parties involved in this deal. If the GB guys think they can make it work, I say go for it, it'll certainly be interesting to see what comes out of all this.

First time I've ever seen GameSpot mentioned on this site, definitely want to hear the story from those involved. I never cared much for the whole fiasco and the upheaval in the community at the time because so much deliberation was going on as to what actually happened that I just tuned it out.

Exactly as someone who loved the banter between the tested and Giantbomb guys as well as screened from time to time its going to suck not having Brad on a tested podcast etc or vice versa.

And i know its a really dumb thing to be sad about but i grew very fond of the interns too i would get excitied for the summers to see Kessler cam etc, and lets not forget about the amazing Fear Gauntlet

In fact if anyone knows there twitter accounts i would love to follow them guys and see how they get on in life.

Interest in the website has always been high judging by what they have said. I don't see why they would have to sign a contract that leads to the death of Giantbomb's soul.

I trust these guys. Hell if I didn't I wouldn't be giving them money. I have to admit when I heard the news I thought "Wait they're going back. What the fuck!" But after watching the video I'm reassured. Jeff has a point if there really was bad blood there they wouldn't go back. If they didn't have control of content, they wouldn't go back. If it meant the destruction or corruption of GiantBomb in any way, they wouldn't go back.

I've been with GiantBomb since day 1, and I'll continue to support these guys until the day I die. Congratulations guys, moving on to bigger, better and more insane shit for another 4 years. Hell another 40 years.

And in the spirit of Paddy's day coming up in a day or two I'll just say, SLÁINTE!!!

I kinda feel like we need more information on this before we get a sense of what's going to happen. At the moment it just kinda seems like Whiskey decided to sell everything, and CBS ate up Giant Bomb. This is the Renegade ending where GB gets sucked up by Gamespot.

Add me to the pile of cautiously optimistic. Could be cool, but I'm always concerned when things like this happen. I'm sure it'll be perfectly okay and stuff. OR WILL IT?
