Another hit to journalistic integrity.

Interest in the website has always been high judging by what they have said. I don't see why they would have to sign a contract that leads to the death of Giantbomb's soul.

I'm pretty excited about this news. The only thing that disappoints me is all the Whiskey sites breaking up. It was awesome having random people show up during TNT to sit on the couch and chat. I think the people freaking out and getting really upset need to chill a bit. Jeff has said more than once today that if they had any doubts about Gamespot and this deal as a whole, they wouldn't have done it. I think questioning their integrity isn't an intelligent approach, considering that they know more about the situation than all of us and have been in the business long enough to know the difference between a good deal and a bad one.

Hoping this works out well.

In the least, we get some cool videos about the crew's move to Gamespot a la their first GB videos. I'll remain cautiously optimistic about this change... after what, three years, it'd be dumb to abandon all faith. If CBSi ruins GB I will get crazy, though.

More than anything else... I'm worried about the influx of GameSpot users that will bring their big website habits to the forums.

Fuck yea. I've been here since day fucking one so I won't stop believin. I am really gonna miss having the tested guys around., like seriously seriously going to miss those guys. But I am still with you.... Fuck this up though and shit is going to get really, real.

This. I'm unbelievably sad to see Tested and Screened leaving it's seriously like losing a friend.

But like many people have said, I trust Jeff. He's a smart guy and as weirded out as I am about this lets all remember, when he was fired you built Giant Bomb.... if he is ever put in the position again I have faith he could do this all over again.

I'll be here until the end, as long as thing stay on the up and up. Lets all be happy for the crew, they seem legitimately happy.

My totally groundless hypothesis is that there was probably a time horizon on making this deal. They found a way to monetize the platform by selling to BB, and from there it was a matter of finding a good enough suitor for GB. I have no facts to back that up however, just my hunch.

An entirely reasonable assumption. Allow me to add my own baseless hypothesis that by that time the site had gained enough popularity to put the guys in a good bargaining position, probably allowing them to preserve the heart and integrity of the site, while also granting them access to financial security. I just think the knee-jerk reaction of money = evil, is a bit short-sighted to say the least.

We should have a little faith.

The best way for a corporation to make money is to let their businesses do what they do best. If the GB guys are convinced that this is the case wih CBS I can only wish them the best of luck and hope this move makes GiantBomb even better.

im looking forward to this, im nervous but every change creates nerves. these guys arn't idiots, more money means better content and i cant wait. Especially to hear exactly why or how Gerstmann got fired , thats exciting really. And will settle some bad blood i think too.

I'm a little skeptical with all of this news, but I really do have faith in Jeff, Vinny, Brad, Ryan, Patrick and all the other Giantbomb people, and I think they wouldn't have made this deal if it meant compromising editorial integrity or anything like that. I'm definitely trying to be optimistic about all of this. I just hope that our forums won't be flooded with current Gamespot users come April 15.. :/

Split down to individual sites, then to individuals to stop their power by numbers game. Then get off the corporate megaphone of the internet. Then focus on print. Then solely word of mouth. Then whispering. Then thinking about games near people.

Dissapointed to see GB split from Screened/Tested. It was always great when there was crossover between the sites.

I honestly thought this was a new food website for a good 15 minutes. Good luck to you guys, seriously. I've really just been a fan of the people never mind the technical side of things so if this means you get to do the stuff you want to do it has to be a good thing.

This is extremely important and I do feel that they're starting to forget that.

I stopped visiting/cancelled my gamespot account because Jeff's firing and Ryan and the crew left.... and now ill be going back.. this feels weird someone hold me.

I really, really hope that in 5 years time, The GB crew are not forced to start a new site - and the name Giantbomb acquires the same dirty conotations as the Gamespot name historically has.

Worst analogy ever. It'd be like if New Line released Return of the King and The Two Towers on the same weekend. Which business in its right mind would funnel money to two of the same entities to compete with each other? The answer: they wouldn't.

Whiskey Media has now followed the traditional path of an awesome upstart that slowly loses its way, before getting reabsorbed by the corporate establishment it once broke off of. Way to go guys.

I do think that it's a shame that the Whiskey Media family is splitting up, though. The only other site I use is Tested, but I've always thought the entire group was pretty cool.
