Insomniac Announces Resistance 3 and Ratchet: All 4 One

Calls R3 "cruel and brutal," new Ratchet & Clank title is anything but.

One of those worst-kept secrets ever was confirmed for release this afternoon at Gamescom in Cologne when Insomniac Games announced Resistance 3 for the PS3. Details are still light, but It's a safe bet that the FPS, which is being described as "cruel and brutal" (via Joystiq), will be set in New York City.

Resistance 3 has been rumored for some time as a result of a snapshot of a billboard featuring the game's logo last year. It's also a pretty obvious move on Insomniac's part. Resistance is something of a popular franchise for the console. The game's first trailer is below.

In contrast, a better-kept secret was also unveiled this afternoon: a co-op-focused PS3 Ratchet & Clank game subtitled All 4 One. As its name implies, the game will feature up to four-player co-op, allowing player control of Ratchet, Clank, Captain Qwark, and Dr. Nefarious. Drop-in and drop-out local and online co-op have been confirmed, and it appears as if the title won't be a mere mini-game collection. Rather, it looks like that real deal Ratchet & Clank platformer fans might be feeling hungry for.

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One is being handled by Insomniac Games' North Carolina studio and is set for Fall 2011 release. The Burbank studio, on the other hand, is handling Resistance 3, which doesn't have a release date quite yet.
