Kid Icarus: Uprising's Surprise Use of Circle Pad Pro

If you were concerned about playing the game left-handed, worry no more.

Kid Icarus: Uprising was one of the first games announced for 3DS, and soon it'll finally be here.
Kid Icarus: Uprising was one of the first games announced for 3DS, and soon it'll finally be here.

Left-handed players can now look forward to playing Kid Icarus: Uprising properly, as The Official Nintendo Magazine UK reports the game will leverage Circle Pad Pro to aid the left-handed.

Circle Pad Pro add-on hasn’t launched outside of Japan yet, but the general use for the accessory, which gives 3DS two analog sticks, has been to more organically map camera or aiming controls.

Nintendo had not shown much interest in throwing its own weight behind Circle Pad Pro, suggesting it was a bone thrown towards third-parties. That Circle Pad Pro won’t be sold anywhere but Nintendo.com and GameStop lends more credence to the theory.

Kid Icarus: Uprising director Masahiro Sakurai claims he didn’t know about Circle Pad Pro until its announcement, which is why its use is limited. Even with more time, that might not have changed.

“[That] would end up being just the same as controls on other platforms and I think the quick aiming possible with the touch panel suits the game best,” said Sakurai.

Circle Pad Pro launches over here on February 7, aka my birthday, and Kid Icarus: Uprising hits March 23.
