Kiefer Sutherland Is Now Snake

So why isn't the Japanese voice changing? This is so strange and lame. I still don't know how people like 24 too, I liked it okay when I was like 14, but looking back on it now...just so many dumb things about that show.

Very disappointing news... I had hoped the whole Hayter not reprising his role thing was just a big joke. Casting Sutherland is a mistake. This has more to do with maintaining consistency within the MGS world. This will break the immersion and make the new games feel disjointed. Why change it at this point when the voice of Snake/Big Boss is well defined and works so well? If there was a good reason I would be more understanding, but at this point it just seems like the answer is: "A change was needed". The sense of familiarity and empathy for Snake/Big Boss is lost now since the new voice is not relatable to the player (in the context of the MGS world). In other words, the heart of the character has been removed.

If replacing Hayter with an actor why not friggin' Kurt Russel? I mean even if it's all a big old Kojima ruse Kurt Russel is Snake Pliskin and would have probably been cheaper.

Even in a movie where he's just sitting down having a smoke?

Not the first time Naked Snake was voiced by someone else.

I'm totally ok with this, as I thought Hayter's performance in MGS4 was meh, but the whole game was meh to me. I just wish they had properly informed Hayter ....the way he found out was fucked up. They can at least treat the man, that gave life to snake for 15 years, with some respect.

Should have gotten Kurt Russell. Would be cool to hear Snake Plissken as Snake in MGS.

@theveej: One can only hope, though Hayter did voice Big Boss/Naked Snake in MGS3 and Peace Walker.

I dunno, I think it might work if Kiefer doesn't over do it like he sometimes does on 24.

That's a fucking perfect replacement, the guy that played snake in MGS5 couldn't show an emotion to save his life.

Sutherland was in COD5 and was the best part of that campaign.

This isnt a publicity stunt! This is a good man getting shitcanned by a man who came up with such great ideas such as Raiden, and worse yet, making him the main character of MGS2.

just realized this article title is wrong.

Youtubed some 24 to freshen up my memory. It'll be immediately different from the voice that became a joke, it'll take forever to get used to, but the gruff tired whiskey-swilled Jack Bauer voice will do the job of a Big Boss that was silent for eight years well. If this material was studied then it seems that Kojima wanted the voice to be in line with the Japanese voice-acting.

Why make a video game. Just make a movie already.

David Hayter better not burn his bridges.

As a non-fan of the series, I have always though Snake's voice was terrible, so thumbs up for me I guess?

While I'm sure the game will still be good, you better have a damn good excuse, Kojima...

I respect the fact that there trying to evolve a long standing franchise and bring more life to Big Boss. Maybe it's a good idea to bring someone like Kiefer in to do it and it doesn't mean that David can't be involved at a later date possibly bringing a degree of separation between the two snakes, especially if you're introducing this franchise to late comers.

I'd agree with you except for one fact, Kurt Russell is better than the MGS games.

They've said that that's a piece of shrapnel or something that gets embedded in his head and causes his coma or whatever.

I imagine this means that the only reason Japanese Snake gets to keep his job is because he's not required to provide facial expressions all of a sudden, since Kiefer Sutherland is going to be doing that for him.

It still seems somewhat disingenuous, though. Old Snake was way beyond his forties, physically, and he didn't feel the need to recast him then. I wont pretend to know the range of Japanese Snake's voice actor, so I'm hoping it's just a way for them to develop Big Boss beyond being a mere copy and paste of Solid Snake.

My vote is for Kurt Russell, the original Snake.
