So...Been a huge Metal Gear Solid fan for 14 years.

Annnnnnnd, that was the straw that broke the camel's back. This series has been gradually disappearing up its own ass since after MGS3. Sure it was heading that way with some of MGS2, but MGS3 was a thorough course correction and MGS4 was a decent follow up. But it [MGS4] began a shift that has ultimately transformed these games into not being the series I fell in love with. Getting rid of Hayter is bad enough, but the reasoning - that they wanted to use an actor who could also mo-cap the character - is asinine.

And even if it is a massive troll...I've had just about enough of that shit from Hideo Kojima. It was funny the first few times, but now it's just getting to be fucking annoying. So this stands as the tipping point for me even if David mysteriously re-surfaces in the game. Frankly, that'd be worse. It's just rude to constantly dick around with people like this.

So...I'm out. You can keep your new Metal Gear, Konami.

One thing to keep in mind here: the Japanese voice actor for Snake was NOT replaced. All this talk about changing directions and whatever else is a steaming load. Japanese Snake in MGS5 will sound the same as he has in MGS1, 2, 3 and 4. This is perhaps what upsets me the most, the misdirection and deceiving from Kojima and Konami. Something fishy is going on.

Depends. Some of these guys have contracts to do certain voices. Like that guy what does Mario will probably be voicing Mario for the rest of his natural life and then some. We don't know the details though. He may just have expected to get it because he's the guy.

Well Hayter has been hinting at this for awhile, but in a tongue in cheek way that hints it could very well be a rouse. I wouldn't expect him to be upset anyway considering he had expressed doubts he could return as he had trouble doing the original Snake voice back when MGS3 was coming out.

I bet kiefer sutherland is big boss and hayter will still voice solid snake.

Big boss was voiced by someone else in MGS4 so it only makes sense that another voice actor plays him in MGS5, specially since MGS5 is in the era where solid snake could make an appearance in.

As long as solid snake is still voiced by hayter, im totally cool with this.

Seeing people bitch "that's not Snake!" makes me never want to play another Metal Gear game.

Profoundly sad to see Hayter gone for certain. His voice was iconic for that character, and I really liked that character. It'd be like removing Nolan North from Uncharted.

Hang on, we knew this ages ago. Kiefer Sutherland was in the trailer back when we only knew it as "The Phantom Pain".

It would be really difficult to follow cutscenes featuring two identical dudes who share the same voice in Metal Gear Solid 6: Metal Gear Solid.

Everyone seems to be saying this but Hayter played Naked Snake/Big Boss in multiple Metal Gear games. Portable Ops, Peace Walker, and lest we forget Metal Gear Solid 3 the only exception being Metal Gear 4. Its not that people can't get their heads around the idea of two characters with different voices, its that Hayter is and has been both Snakes consistently through the franchise. Which is why the fans are bummed/angered at the fact Hayter won't be reprising his role.

This might be completely honest and true or another elaborate ruse pulled by Kojima. Either way I don't really care.

This is clearly a set up to reveal that Hayter is Snake

In their defense Hayter did voice Big Boss in games where Boss was younger, but his game takes place in the 80's and Boss is almost 50. The only other time we saw a older than late 30's very early 40's boss was in Metal Gear Solid 4, where Big Boss was not voiced by Hayter. So while they are sorta the same guy like you said, and Hayter does voice Boss in other games... there is a precedent for Old Boss not being voiced by him.

That said it you aren't going to use Hayter it is going to be hard to top Keifer Sutherland. He is a great actor and I have no doubts that he will deliver.

I love MGS and all, but you people getting outraged over this are out of your fucking minds.

What the fu...g. That's weird, but I guess it could be cool. Yet another thing I'm conflicted about. While I had originally thought they were just planning something, now, I do believe this is true. If you watch the video, it does seem like Kiefer doing Snake, though I wonder why he was voicing Ishmael.

Snake just isn't Snake without Hayter. That being said Keif is a excellent actor and doesn't deserve the oncoming hate that's gonna be thrown his way. I'm sure he'll deliver an admirable performance. I mean who knows maybe Hayter will play a young Snake but I doubt it, hearing this news bummed me out more then I thought it would though. I guess I was more attached to the franchise and its cast then I realized.

Yes, because the VOICE was the problem with the character... they should probably look at replacing writers instead of voice actors.

I think the way it should have gone was have Hayter voice Big Boss for Ground Zeroes, because it takes soon after Peace Walker, and then after he wakes up from his decade long coma in Phantom Pain...have Richard Doyle, who voiced Big Boss in MGS4, take over.

Unless Hideo Kojima has Keifer re-record all of Big Boss' dialogue and patch it into MGS4. At which point, that'd show commitment. And, it'll be absolute proof that he and the people at Konami have lost their goddamn minds.

That's another thing. I would have been fine if they'd cast Richard Doyle (Big Boss in MGS4) instead of Hayter. As a voice actor he's far more experienced than Kiefer and he's already played the part once, if only for 40 minutes. He was the only replacement that would have made me go "yeah, sure, makes sense."

Huge MGS nut here. I thought I would have been really mad, but I'm ok with it. Mainly because the moment Big Boss turns into the bad guy is approaching, and that only means that young snake (voiced by Hayter) must appear at some time :D

David Hayter portrayed Old Solid Snake. Sutherland should be great as Big Boss. You can make arguments either way. All I can say is that Kojima is a fucking idiot when it comes to storytelling.

Its not exactly... confirmed hayter isn't in this game either. He won't be Big boss for sure. But, the dawn of the two snakes is coming. I would love for zanzibar land to be in 3d. Outer heaven even.

When ever I think about Metal Gear I'm always gonna say "Metal Gear?" in Hayter voice but i'm excited to see something new in Snakes character.

Also Hayter seems to me to be throwing a bit of a strop of this.

They always lean towards real actors for performance capture, Nolan North and Troy Baker are the only exceptions as far I can tell, casting people tend to lean towards veterans of plays/tv or complete unknowns.(DmC, Infamous 2, Naughty Dog)

Hayter can voice an outrageous cartoon character fairly well, Guyver 2 is the only time we've seen him play a human being.

Unless of course this is typical Kojima F'ing with us and this is all in service of leading to a Big Boss versus Solid Snake situation, in which it would be odd if they had the same voice.

I don't like Metal Gear because of David Hayter. Granted, I only played the first MGS game.

I still think this is more of a prank. I mean we knew Sutherland was in it, he voices the character thats not Snake in the demo, meaning he was at least available to take part. They tell us he is the new voice, yet still fail to provide even a snippet of Snake talking ingame, plus Avi Arad was the one that introduced Sutherland to Kojima...but Arad is friends with Hayter, as they worked on the X-Men films together. This also seems like the kinda thing that would be announced live at E3, not a pre recorded 10 minute video before E3.

As a huge fan of MGS i'm strangely okay with this. Honestly I would've felt betrayed if Hayter ended up voicing him after all this. And I cant think of anyone better to replace him than KS.
