Mass Effect 3 To Launch On All Three Platforms Simultaneously

Commander Shepard no longer has a favorite platform on the Citadel.

No platform will have the jump on the other when Mass Effect 3 hits retail at some point in late 2011. EA has confirmed (via Joystiq) that the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions of the sci-fi RPG will launch at the same time around the globe--a first for the series, though the franchise hasn't even seen its debut yet on the PS3.

Mass Effect 3 was formally announced over the weekend at the Spike Video Games Awards show, and as a leak had already indicated, the game will indeed focus largely on Earth. The debut teaser at the 2010 VGAs showed Earth being invaded and bruised by Reapers and their little baddies. It also highlighted the fact that Shepard is a quadrillion miles away attempting to handle the larger threat by gathering support for the fight.

"At BioWare, we are always driving ourselves to improve and I firmly believe our best work is still ahead of us," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, BioWare co-founder, said in a press release statement. "We could not be prouder of the team's accomplishments with Mass Effect 2, and are excited and humbled by all of the recognition the game has received so far. We can't wait to show you what the team is doing to make ME3 an even bigger success."

ME2 will hit the PS3 on January 18 in North America and January 21 in Europe. A demo of the PS3 version, by the way, is hitting on December 21 in NA and December 22 in Europe. Chances are you already knew ME2 is really, really, good, but just in case you didn't… ME2 is really, really good.
