More Details on Those 3DS Ambassador Games

We're 3DS Ambassadors now, people. Time to...wait until September 1 for the games to roll out.

September 1 is when Nintendo will unleash the first wave of free games, beginning with Virtual ConsoleNES releases. When the program was announced, Nintendo said the NES versions for 3DS Ambassadors would be slightly featured limited, with tweaks coming to the versions that would eventually show up on the eShop for purchase.

3DS Ambassadors get both for free.

Nintendo of Europe has detailed the differences between each version, as well as what we're getting with the Game Boy Advance releases.

On the NES side, there will an in-game manual that explains the controls, with a full manual coming later. There will be "pass the DS" multiplayer initially, with wireless versus play in the updated version. The typical "Restore Point" save functionality, allowing you to save/load at any time, will not be in the initial release, but it will come later. Instead, you'll be limited to suspending play via "VC Suspend."

As for the GBA games, there will be full manuals. Neither "Restore Point" nor "VC Suspend" are included, so you'll have to rely on each title's in-game system mechanisms. If you want to stop playing, make sure to exit the game, as there is no Sleep Mode with GBA releases, so your battery will go poof.

In a future update, you'll be able to transfer all of these games to another system.

Sounds to me like they are flailing their arms to get these games out as soon as humanly possible.

Nearly everything is "coming later", "eventually available" or "will be added in the future".

On a more serious note, it is odd that you can't use sleep mode while in a GBA game. I'm not really sure why they wouldn't take the time to get that working since that's always been such a nice feature of the entire DS lineup.

And yet we still don't know all the games yet. I want to know what we will be getting!

@Alex_Carrillo: While I would have immediately agreed with you before, I've actually started getting better at using touch screen controls for the emulated fighting games. I'm certainly not as good as I am with a controller or stick, but it was definitely easy enough to very quickly become better at it.

There are certainly better solutions, but it seems like someone could get used to this type of play.

@Hailinel: My point was they're giving me things that I already paid money for and are inferior to their original versions. Some of the things they're giving us are things I paid for twice already.

All I'm saying is: I would have gladly taken only 1 free upcoming 3DS game--like that new Super Mario game--over the 20 that work better on my phone and have features that they don't on Nintendo's own primary first party device.

@Hailinel: I'm not gonna' start a war here, bro. All I'm saying is the number doesn't matter to me when I payed for and played them all already. I'm not going to play them again (I already paid for them again). They may as well be zero games to me.

I payed my $250 at launch, and I paid another $240 plus tax for games. Am I owed anything? No. Just because the device is terrible and the content for it lackluster and overpriced all around, that's my fault for dropping loads of money on trash. I should have waited, rented, etc.

Again, all I'm saying is if they had to give away something for free, just let it be that Mario game that was sorely missed at launch. If that makes me ungrateful and if I have to be looked down upon for that, then so be it.

I definitely think the 20 free games were lackluster as an incentive to buy the 3DS before  today's price drop.  Hell, it wasn't enough to get me to buy one.  On the other hand, if I had bought the 3DS before they announced the price drop, I would definitely be a little less irritated with my basically wasted $80+tax.  Would I prefer one new 3DS game of my choice to 20 old games, not all of which I care about and the ones I do I've certainly already played?  Of course!  But I wouldn't complain about getting something free, even if it takes a little time to roll out.  A little slap-dash in the execution, maybe, but still better than nothing.

I paid the 'new' low price and I'm getting the free games, so I'm happy with whatever :)

A red DS just makes more sense. Because of the Nintendo logo I guess (and this damn website), I can't help but associate the color with Nintendo stuff. I gotta say though, the one I got yesterday being my favorite shade of blue (and therefore my favorite color) ain't bad either.

How do you know if you are a ambassador? Do you get a notification or something, because I loged on at 23:56 and loged out 00:00. and I am really confused if I get the games or not,

@Goldanas: I really wish I could get used to touch controls. I have had an iPhone for a really long time, and I'm still terrible at it. I can never get to the point where I feel like I'm actually in control of the game. Maybe I'm just an old man who can't deal with change :-)

It's one thing to bitch about entitlement issues when it's a couple months of online that is fucked up. It's another thing to say people shouldn't be reimbursed for being fucked out of $80 because Nintendo never came through on their promises to provide quality software and support for the platform. Before a single relevant new game came out for the system, the price dropped a large amount. Its bad business, period.
