No Hagar, Anthony in Guitar Hero: Van Halen

Well, my interest in Guitar Hero: Van Halen has been knocked down a notch.

They don't seem thrilled about it, either.

When it comes to Van Halen, I, like all people of decent character and sound genetic makeup, prefer the Diamond Dave era over Van Hagar by leaps and bounds, but there's no denying that Sammy Hagar is an important and significant part of Van Halen's history. So, yeah, it's kind of a bummer that Activision has confirmed that you won't be seeing the Red Rocker in Guitar Hero: Van Halen. But leaving out long-time bassist Michael Anthony in favor of Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, seems a little more insulting to fans.

MusicRadar, the site that originally reported on this, posits that Eddie Van Halen's rocky relationships with Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar--who are currently working together in a band called Chickenfoot alongside Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and Joe Satriani--could be the reason for their omission from the game. If it's true, it's unfortunate, but either way, ignoring the existence of key band members when the whole point of the game is to celebrate the band just seems like a bad idea. But, to be fair, I'm still more interested in Guitar Hero: Van Halen than, say, Guitar Hero: Chickenfoot.
