Now There Are Two People Who Want A Getting Up Sequel

Apparently it's not just me.

Hello, I'm Jeff Gerstmann, and I'm the guy that really liked Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. Considering the way that game gets brought up in extremely derisive ways these days, I've had the feeling that I'm the only one out here that still has fond memories of the crazy near-future Turk 182 update, where Trane takes back the night with paint cans.

It was the atmosphere and the world that the developers created that made it stand out, and I can still remember a lot of the game's big set pieces. Great voice cast and soundtrack, too.

Anyway, my desire to see the game get a sequel or remake or something is apparently shared by the clothing magnate responsible for its production, Marc Ecko. At least, that's what he claims in a recent interview with Destructoid. He also takes a moment to blame the game's publisher, Atari, claiming that they... well, here's the quote...

"Getting Up was a lot of blood, sweat, and tears," he said. "Atari shit the bed, you know? And I'm gonna f*cking make that game again if it kills me. I'm gonna do it. I want to see the brand out there again."

Given that Ecko has gone on to launch his own game company, which produced Dexter for the iPhone, maybe he's actually serious about all this. Or maybe he'll get control of the name back from Atari and pump out an iPhone graffiti game with no ties to the world that made the first game so cool. There I go, getting all cynical again... I guess that's what happens when people start talking in business lingo and refer to things as "brands."
