Master Quest is essentially a B-side version of the core game. No new tools, powers, or art are present in the side content, just new dungeon puzzles and layouts. The Master Quest was first introduced in North America in the GameCube version of the game, but it was originally slated to hit back in the Nintendo 64 generation as a Nintendo Disc Drive option. Those plans, obviously, fell through when the N64DD itself failed to materialize at retail.
I’d like to say that Master Quest sweetens the deal for the 3DS version of the game, but it’s not exactly “new” since it’s already been incorporated in a past US re-release (and as a pre-order bonus). Still, it’s one more reason to dive into OOT 3DS--if you needed another reason, that is.
OOT 3DS is still slated to hit at some point this Summer, while the 3DS hits later this month. Who's going to be there on day one?
I have both the Wind Waker pre-order bonus disc and the Collector's Edition, so I''ll gladly add a third Ocarina of Time and a second Master Quest to my collection. Maybe this time I''ll actually try beating the Master Quest.

Nintendo isn't the only company that rereleases old games. The God of War Collection on PS3 for example is just an up-rezzed version of the PS2 games, which aren't nearly as old as Ocarina of Time.
@villainy I don't do a lot of flying, and you make a good point. I do a lot of interstate driving, and the Bombcasts make those trips a delight. Thanks for the link. Upgrading my membership was appealing even before I learned of this, BUT it would dip into my 3DS fund...decisions, decisions.

Yeah its funny because you can play on PC with high res textures and AA. I guess this is still better then what it would have been if on the ds. Back in 2004 I thought of the possibilities while playing mario 64 ds.

Hell wake me When the 3DS gets good games that are not crap N64 game ports and I will buy one. This might be the worst Nintendo launch ever I was more excited about getting a virtual boy than this because it had fucking a mario and yoshi tennis game in the box. and the DS had a fucking metroid demo and that still pwns all the 3ds launch games.
I don't care about the 3ds launch games at all this time or the 3ds it's self for the first nintendo launch ever.

@Nalean: I'm guessing you don't do a lot of flying. I occasionally travel back and forth across the US for family reasons and find that handheld Zelda games are a great way to pass the time. Also welcome to the club. Are you hard enough to send Giant Bomb around the world? ;)
@Brew Legend: One, Nintendo's ever-growing Scrooge McDuck style money bin would disagree. Two, Nintendo has come up with quite a bit of new content since OOT was released and while the re-releases were in the works. They always seem to have a plan for placating old time fans even if they aren't actively developing new properties.
Oddly enough, if I were to get a 3DS this would be the thing to sell me. But alas, it's still $250 and I might as well wait for the inevitable hardware upgrade while I'm at it.
Navi never really bugged me, what really bugged me is Link's hyper-annoying Japanese shouts during various actions. It started with this game and was horribly distracting to me. I can't tell you what a bummer it was for me to pick up the GBA version of Link the the Past - my personal favorite Zelda game - only to find this was even retro-actively now his official voice.
Fast forward 13 years, I just saw footage of Skyward Sword from GDC and I'm so dissappointed to hear Link still sounds that way. Does anybody else feel this way?

I've had some hands-on at CeBit last week. The game looks great. New textures, better models, etc.
Ocarina of Time in 3D with five times the polygons certainly isn't a bad thing, but damn, it would have been awesome if they had actually thrown in some new items/dungeons/mini-games/quests.

Because it's one of the greatest games ever made, and nostalgia is a powerful thing. For me at least, it was a huge part of my childhood, and why wouldn't you want to experience that feeling again, or see something you care about lovingly recreated.
Also there is a whole generation that wasn't even born when it was released, who may now choose to enjoy a classic, remastered for modern audiences who might not be able to digest a game that looks like games did on the 64.
@Crushed: Same here. I never once found her annoying at all. Like you said she can give you some pretty useful information and it's not when she says "Hey" or "Listen" she completely interrupts everything else in the game world, taking priority.
For my 3DS (launch purchase for me also) I'll generally be leaning towards games like Pilotwings, Street Fighter, and Mario Kart (this year, right?) that are better suited for shorter bursts of play. As a general rule I don't play handhelds for hours on end, and that is typically how I like to experience Zelda games. This one might be hard to pass on though...

As if the slightly enhanced graphics and the retuned Water Temple weren't enough reasons for a die-hard Zelda fan like me to anticipate Ocarina of Time 3DS, now they have decided to include Master Quest as well? Day one purchase!
Also, am I the only one who never got that annoyed at Navi? People always go on about how terrible she was, but the first time I played the game she was way more helpful than annoying.
The 3DS is a buy for me...when the second generation of it comes out. That way it will have some nice new features and a more substantial game library. The cupboard is a little thin for my tastes for a while.
That is pretty awesome. I love Ocarina of Time but for some reason I never ended up playing much Master Quest so I'm glad to have a reason to go through it.

More like a remixed version of an N64 game that was ported to the GameCube without upgrades that is being remade along with the original game for the 3DS with actual enhancements this time around.
