Palmer Luckey's Top 7 Non-VR Games of 2015

The cherubic chairman of virtual reality chimes in on the choice gaming experiences of 2015.

No Caption Provided

Palmer Luckey is the oft-shoeless inventor of the Oculus Rift, and founder of Oculus VR. You can often find him extolling the virtues of virtual reality on Twitter.

Editor's Note: You may be wondering why Palmer's list doesn't include any VR games. That's on purpose. He opted out of including any VR products here to avoid any possible conflicts of interest.

1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

We all know the problems, but it is still undeniably one of the best games of the year. Stefanie Joosten did a great job of bringing Quiet to life, and Kiefer was an acceptable replacement for Hayter. If only Chapter 2 had not been cut so short...

2. Kerbal Space Program

I still can't stop playing.

3. Super Smash Bros.

The game has evolved a lot over the past year, and it is still awesome. I am especially stoked about the return of so many classic stages from SSB 64--some them are basically poly-for-poly copies.

4. One Finger Death Punch

It is crazy addictive, playing it makes me feel like a kid playing early 2000s Flash games again.

5. DCS World with UH-1H Huey expansion

No Caption Provided

I have wanted to learn how to fly helicopters my whole life, and I played a whole bunch of this expansion before ultimately deciding to actually go ahead and do it.

Shockingly, it turns out that flying real helicopters is considerably easier than any of the missions included in DCS.

6. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

The level design is better than anything in The Phantom Pain, I wish this kind of depth could have made it over.

7. Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

Awesome store, art. soundtrack, and gameplay. Basically the perfect example of how to make a old school game in a modern world.

If DCS World eventually makes its way to VR, that would be pretty incredible.

I agree about MGS:GZ to an extent, but I think that being able to fulton guards is a gamechanger that would have broken some of the challenge/depth.

One Finger Death Punch is legit, happy to see that on a list even if it's an old game

I still have trouble understanding the appeal of One Finger Death Punch even though it seems to be universally adored.

Awesome that Palmer Mr. Luckey is still available for these lists though.

I used to think palmer lucky was crazy for his impassioned love of super smash bros, then he was on that time cover and i realized he was actually only so goofy because he is a genius inventor who is not much older than me and a millionaire. Also his list is rad, drew didn't even put DCS on his and thats an awesome choice.

DCS already does work with Oculus Rift. The only issue is that one needs to have a full HOTAS setup and needs to be intimately familiar with all of the controls of the aircraft in order to use VR. This is due to not being able to see the keyboard. I mean, just look at the keyboard map for the A-10C alone.

This guy knows whats up with Ground Zeroes, that game was amazing. Fulton removed all challenge from PP and all but like 4 areas being a few small tents and some military crates was really disappointing.

So damn true about Ground Zeroes. Kind of unbelievable how none of the individual levels in TPP are as good.

He's absolutely right about Ground Zeroes. The bases in TPP were a lot simpler by comparison. Well, it sure looks like they cut the third act out of that game, so I guess it makes sense.

One Finger Death Punch in VR, you say? :p

That game legit gave me RSI but I think it's one of the finest things I've played this decade. Top 1% Survival Mode represent!

I forgot One Finger Death Punch came out this year. So crazy how fun it is, considering WHAT it is.

Mad props for putting One Finger Death Punch. So much fun and challenge for a $5 game. Everyone should buy that game.

Wow, I never pegged Palmer for a DCS guy. That's super cool. Vortex ring state is a real f***er.

@unsolvedparadox: It already is. You can play the DCS with the current Development Versions of the Oculus!
