Resident Evil 5 'Gold' To Be Only Version To Support Move

You bought this one anyway, right?

You'll have to pony up for a newer copy of Resident Evil 5 if you plan to rotate man-turret Chris Redfield with motion controls. Unspecified technical reasons have made it impossible for Capcom to patch in Move support for older versions of the game. The "Gold" edition, according to a recent PS blog post, will be the only one that will support long-anticipated patch this September.

"[The patch] will only work with RE5 copies labeled Gold edition," Sony media guy Sid Shuman explained in the post, "the original version won't be receiving the patch for technical reasons."

== TEASER ==The PS3 version of Resident Evil 5 Gold edition, which debuted in March, includes a digital bouquet of previously released DLC. The game's two optional episodes, Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape, as well as four costumes and two multiplayer modes are available on the disc.

If you already own Gold edition, you'll have to download the Move patch when it hits at some point close to Move's September 19 launch date. Later versions of the Gold edition though, as Shuman explained, will support Move out of the box--a cool feature for, you know, people who don't already own it.

I can't imagine this Move update news makes people feel good about keeping around their old Resident Evil 5 discs. But look at it this way: you just saved yourself some money on the skeet range, right?

@arab_prince:  Even though I don't own a PS3 or this game I find this very interesting. What makes me wonder about this is what "technical" reason caused the original game to have issues with the update. Or is this just a way to sell more copies?

I fail to see how they couldn't patch the original game. Can't you do anything with a patch?

i definitely agree. The technical issue is "lack of desire".

To me it seems pretty much the same game, I really doubt it is due to 'Technical Reasons', I think Capcom is just trying to squeeze more money out of Resident Evil 5.

They did specify ages ago that the GOLD version would come with motion support. Obviously they're a little late but, not like this is a surprise.

@Vorbis: Quantic dream are supporting move through a patch, i'm fairly certain that has been confirmed.

In other news, I'm still unsure about Move, let alone playing games i barely enjoyed the first time but with more waggling.

Not really sure, actually. Best not to dwell on it, though. Typical CAPCOM business tactics in full speed here.

Wtf? There can't be such technical difficulties which only a hard copy version of a game can fix. To me this seems that they are just trying to milk people who know less about this.

I think the reason is that RE5 Gold retails for 'technically' twice as much as vanilla.  That and Capcom 'technically' think you're retarded.

They never, ever said the original version would support Move controls. We all just assumed that because that's the only way it would make sense. I certainly expected them to patch the original version, which is why I bought it and the DLC that Gold Edition provides. Now it's a situation where literally the only reason to buy Gold (at least for people who downloaded Versus, Desperate Escape, and Lost in Nightmares) would be for Move support. New controls are certainly not worth another $40.

That said, the Wii edition is easily the best version of RE4. I'm 99% sure RE5 is better with motion controls. If I hadn't already played through the game at least six times, I would be all over it.

Shit like this is a great way to make Move fail or at least give it a really bad start. It would be rather stupid for Sony to let them get away with that as there is zero technical reason to do it, other then "please buy our game twice".

Are you aware of who Capcom even is as a company? They were always about milking a franchise. They've actually been pretty tame this generation. To summarize: Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo.

I have been playing Capcom games since the Genesis days, I'm just saying that RE5 is the exact same game, unlike the different versions of Street Fighter lol.

Most likely money...
Capcom's heads are thinking but wont actually say this since it would piss off fans.
We don't care about people that bought the original version and we would rather they just spend the money buying the new disc instead of us spending the money patching it.

On a related note:  Did CAPCOM fix Resident Evil 5's framerate problems on the PS3 with the Gold release?

I prefer to buy the best possible version of a game and sometimes that means I have to buy the 360 versions even though I'd prefer to have a game on the PS3.  So when I played the demo of RE5 on both the 360 and the PS3 when the game first came out, and also subsequently reading reviews of the game, I knew I wouldn't own the PS3 version because it played better on the 360.

Then it turns out, I never purchased it anyway because I had a ton of other games to play at the time.  When I heard about the Gold version i renewed my interests and I wanted to pick it up but I haven't yet.  I'd rather have it on PS3 but I'm concerned that the framerate is still a problem and I can't seem to find any sites that RE-reviewed the game since the Gold version came out, or that have talked about the framerate still being a problem.

Anyone know?

I bought Gold specifically because I anticipated this happening. In Capcom's defense they did indicate that this is how it would be even months before Gold's release. Not that it doesn't make it not seem shady.

meh, I rather sit down with my controller and play this than have to work on motion controls.  Even though RE4 Wii wasn't too bad at all, I'm not gonna waste more money just for the motion controls.  Besides, I have the game on Xbox 360 not PS3.

Technical reasons? OK. So the logic is a game disc which happens to contain the original game and 2 DLCs can be patched with a new function support while a games disc containing the original game, running on the same engine, cannot be with the same new function?

Totally get it. It's my bad Capcom, for questioning your motives of "being able to only" support the Gold Edition of RE5. I sincerely apologize for whatever harm I caused and please don't sue me to cover for the PR campaign which serves the purpose of saving your image.

I doubt it's a lie. It's not like the game was that popular and nobody will run out to get a new copy because of move support. This seems to hurt them more than it helps so I can't see them faking it.
