Sledgehammer Games Working On Call of Duty "Action-Adventure"

Also, Treyarch's officially up this year.

Glen A. Schofield - The new face of Call of Duty?
Glen A. Schofield - The new face of Call of Duty?
"Jason West and Vince Zampella are no longer with Infinity Ward." That's the official statement from Activision about yesterday's dismissal. That line is buried in a press release focusing on the future of the Call of Duty series along with these other things:

What?

One Vincent Caravella, when presented with this information, immediately said "so, they're making God of Warfare?" But you can hear that for yourself on tonight's podcast.

Additionally, Activision is forming a new business unit around the Call of Duty franchise to combine resources and bring to COD "the same focus seen in its Blizzard Entertainment business unit." But so far, all of this is starting to sound more like Guitar Hero circa 2009 than anything Blizzard's been doing lately.

Editor's note: The original version of this article misinterpreted the releasse to mean that Sledgehammer's COD game would be released in 2011. No release date for this product has been announced. Giant Bomb regrets the error.

I guess they're milking COD to make up for less Guitar Hero games this year.

So, an action game with more cutscenes?

If it ain't got puzzles, it's no adventure.

So I guess they're not even trying to hide the fact that they're milking the Call of Duty name for all it's worth? That would almost be refreshingly honest if it weren't so damned reprehensible.

Interesting times, people. Interesting times.

My fellow video game players, please remember this when you're thinking about dropping another $60 on a game just because it has that "Call of Duty" name attached to it.

Sounds like Activision are doing what a publisher does, trying to market a highly popular brand in as many ways possible to ensure maximum profits. Simple business.

You know what?

This is good news.

Activision blew it with Guitar Hero.

Activision is in the process of fucking up Call of Duty.

Activision is just going down a death spiral.

The question is, are they going to drag Blizzard down with them?

internet agrivations aside.....you know this game will sell, the general public soesn't give a shit what a developer or publisher does, most people think WaW and Modernwarfare two are made by the same people. People like us will no that these games will suck but the general public will be like "i like call of duty why not by these other game that has call of duty on it" its sad but they will continue to do stuff like this because it makes money.

i think this is looking like call of duty over kill and nobody really cares about COD if  infinity ward isn't making it . Also i think they are blind with money that this is going to bite them on the ass , when people get tired of modern warfare what else does activision  have other than what blizzard  is doing .

Goddamn it Activision: stop being so greedy. You are going to kill the videogame industry. Stop flooding the market with a million iterations of the same franchise! You should have learned your lesson from Guitar Hero.

@Hamz:
It's simple business, and it's stupid business.  COD will go the Guitar Hero route, becoming less and less popular every year, every iteration, till the product has been diluted so much that no one cares anymore.  Yes, the games may still be good, yes, there are going to be a handful of fans, but Activision's most recent efforts have been focused solely on the short-term.  And if they keep going at this rate it'll most likely kill them later on.

They can suck my tiny, hairless peepee if they think they're going to do to me with Call of Duty what they did with Guitar Hero. They'll be bleeding this dry, milking the Call of Duty cash cow's udders until they erode away. They can fuck off, honestly. We aren't stupid. By getting rid of these two head honchos (which we still don't know 100% why, so I'm still on the fence about it) and announcing all these new games and genres for the CoD franchise at the same time has left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

I'd buy a map pack or two, aye, but:

- A new game developed by Treyarch? No.
- A new game developed by Sledgehammer Games? No.
- Paying per month for online play (which has been touted before, and this 'new business model' reeks of that)? No.

Activision: piss off.

I don't really mind this. I think I've played enough Call of Duty so I don't mind skipping the next one.

It sucks that the heads of IW got fired though, wanted to see what that studio would do when they weren't making COD games.

Uh oh. Looks like Call of Duty is going down the same path that Guitar Hero and Halo went through once the suits got their hands on the license instead of the original developer.

One does not fuck with the Blizzard way of making games. And Blizz has enough people loyal to the company where it can go 'Fuck you' if Activision tries waving its dick.

IE did not have people who were loyal to IE. They had people who were loyal to CoD.

Hopefully...that means something. Because I do not want Blizzard to go down like this.
