Sony Reveals PlayStation 4 Pricing, Design

Today has been a crazy day as far as video games go.

@flacracker: All electronics pretty much get USD = EUR but the real difference is because the US price is without sales tax while the EU price is with VAT included if I understand correctly so it evens out a bit.

i'm all for kinda hating MS after their greed and lack of tact but the "this console = new video card" argument could just as easily apply to the PS4.

maybe not as NICE of a video card but still...

the fact that Sony seems to actually respect gamers and give them value for their money does give them a ton of brownie points. and they'll probably have some damn fine 1st party exclusives. almost enough to make me want one day 1, but we'll see how it goes.

And for them they have the price.

I mean, theoretically they could still basically not implement the DRM and could just remove the always online requirement from their software if they really wanted to. No discs have been printed yet so no copy protection is in place. That said, how likely is it for a corporation like Microsoft to say "Yeah, we totally were trying to fuck you guys, our consumers over, but you didn't go for it so now we're not going to." I mean, they kind of have to at this point but Jesus, that would look bad for them in business circles & the press. Hell, maybe it'd be no worse then than it is now. Either way, I expect some heads are rolling and some bricks are being shat around Redmond Washington tonight.

This is kind of a bummer for me, but I'm already a PS+ subscriber. Not because it was ever required, but because it is an awesome service that offers a ton of great games. This month we're getting VLR, XCOM, Uncharted 3 and Saints Row III. I've only played Saints Row so far. My $50 annual subscription seems like the right choice.

@flacracker: correct, euro prices include 20% VAT (therefore I took it out), but US prices are without VAT

@brian3d: I am still leaning towards the Xbox. Always online and used games do not effect me. I also came away more interested in the Xbox games shown today. Sony had a great show but anyone who thinks Sony is standing up for gamers are fooling themselves. They had to have this type of showing with what happend last generation.

I am not usually one to commend Sony for anything but they definitely stomped Microsoft here. Even I am kinda considering a PS4 and I have never bought a Sony product my entire life (outside of one used PS2).
