Splinter Cell 6 Is In The Works

Sit tight though, no word on night-vision goggles yet.

Earlier this summer, Ubisoft made it known that a new Splinter Cell was in the works at its Toronto studio. What it neglected to mention was if this new title would be another direct follow-up to the core franchise. Turns out that it is: Splinter Cell 6 is indeed on the way.

This confirmation comes via a studio-tour video Ubisoft distributed to Eurogamer last week. In it, managing director Jade Raymond says quite plainly, "We're working on Splinter Cell 6, the next iteration of the blockbuster franchise, and we're doing it completely here in Toronto."

As MTV points out in their story about this reveal, Ubisoft Montreal has had a hand in most Splinter Cell titles, making Splinter Cell 6 a bit of a departure. And the Toronto studio seems up to the task in terms of numbers. In the video, Raymond says there are 83 people working at the studio now and within 10 years that number may reach 800 if staffing plans pan out.

Raymond says little else about Splinter Cell 6 after confirming that it's in the works, which is to be expected since it's indicated that the game is still pretty early on in development. The part of me that likes finishing games hopes that Splinter Cell 6 builds off of Conviction's simplified gameplay design, but again, nothing of substance about this in-the-works game has been made public yet.
