The Future of Video Games According to CESA

The Tokyo Game Show organizers have announced a batch of "best of show" winners from the FUTURE DIVISION.

"Psst... wanna play some 428 with me?"
So, how different are Japanese game tastes from your own? Let's play "compare the sorts of games you like to the games given awards by CESA, the organization that puts on the Tokyo Game Show!"

Here are the 12 games that were marked as award-winning works.

  • The Idolmaster: Wandering Star/Perfect Sun/Missing Moon (PSP)
  • Gyakuten Kenji (DS)
  • White Knight Chronicles (PS3)
  • Star Ocean 4: THE LAST HOPE (360)
  • Dissidia: Final Fantasy (PSP)
  • Dragon Quest IX: Defenders of the Starry Sky (DS)
  • Resident Evil 5 (360/PS3)
  • Monster Hunter 3 (tri-) (Wii)
  • 428 ~in the blocked city, Shibuya~ (Wii)
  • LittleBigPlanet (PS3)
  • Ryu ga Gotoku 3 (PS3)
  • Let's TAP (Wii)

BEHOLD THE FUTURE OF VIDEO GAMES

Yes, the "sound novel" that Sega is doing for the Wii, 428, apparently impressed somebody. And it wouldn't be Japan if someone wasn't going bananas over an Idolmaster game, especially one that comes in three different Pokemon-like flavors.

Personally, I thought that Gomi Bako would have made the list, but perhaps a recycling-flavored take on the puzzle genre isn't "FUTURE" enough for "FUTURE DIVISION." Oh, and before you go and start posting comments like "DUDE THEY SNUBBED HALO 3 RECON," note that Microsoft didn't show that game at TGS, instead preferring to discuss it in a secret hotel room just off the show floor.

All caps, excessive punctuation, and no spaces.  What's a game gotta do to get noticed these days?
Resemble a forum post, apparently. ;)

Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy are kinda expected to be on there regardless of how good they are, but Let's Tap? Really?

Aside from The Idolmaster and 428, it looks like those games would have a pretty good reception in the US. Some are not what we might consider Best of Show, but popular nonetheless.
