Twisted Metal Returns In 2011

This is what David Jaffe has been so busy with.

Turns out that David Jaffe is working on a Twisted Metal game. He and studio Eat Sleep Play are building something of a return to form for the long-running franchise, as revealed at Sony's E3 2010 media briefing.

Twisted Metal will feature the usual car combat and seriously bent characters such as the disgusting clown Sweet Tooth and Calypso. Inside this dark wrapper, you'll be controlling over a dozen cars armed with weapons like rocket launchers, giant magnets, and even "flying mascots." You'll also be able to change environmental layouts via destruction.

The game's campaign will feel familiar for those who bothered with the franchise in some shape or form. Evil man Calypso is the host of a twisted tournament that will pit you, tiered-style, against bent opponents across an array of arena maps.

The multiplayer component sees the return of faction-based combat. Up to 16 players will be supported and a variety of unique modes have been promised. One of those modes demoed at the E3 briefing was "Nuke," an inventive take on "bomb the base" that has you holding a base long enough to fire a missile at an aerial statue.

Helicopters have been confirmed. In fact, these un-winged beasts will be crucial to another game mode dubbed Flight, which will have you pummeling characters with a copter's chaingun.

Twisted Metal is a PS3 exclusive and will see a release sometime in 2011.

While I really liked TM Black, it makes me think that was a good game more than I'm going to buy the sequel. Hopefully it will be a PSN title as it might work better than a disc version, not sure now if the public will go after it due to the long time since the last. At least on PS3 the multiplayer will be better connected as many people I knew with PS2 didn't connect it online.

Just as I was saying this year's conference lacked a shocking reveal they played the video for a new Twisted Metal.

I hope this lives up to the fond memories of Twisted Metal World Tour

I'm glad to hear this but at the same time disappointed that it seems you don't control unique characters.
