Warner Bros. Confirms Mortal Kombat Live Action Web Series

Made by the same dude who won us over with the short film in 2010.

Director Kevin Tancharoen made waves on the Internet back in 2010 with a professional looking, yet unofficial fan short called "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth." Turns out that good things can happen when you draw the kind of excited response Tancharoen did with his mini flick. MK Publisher Warner Bros. confirmed new reports of a forthcoming web series this morning, pegging the director as the visionary behind them.

Just don't expect these future installments to be as free as the pilot episode. Future episodes will be "available this spring through online digital retailers from Warner Bros. Digital Distribution." Shooting will begin on the series in Vancouver next month.

According to WB, this series will delve into the history of some of Mortal Kombat's characters, including Scorpion, Johnny Cage, and Liu Kang. With Mortal Kombat hitting shelves on April 19, it seems likely that the series will wrap just in time for the release of NetherRealm's latest.
