Why We're Not Reviewing Battlefield 1943 Yet

Man DICE really pulled an illusion on some of you. Even though Wake Island has been in previous Battlefields it's less than half the regular size in 1943. The action is proportionate to earlier Battlefield games. If you can't find action, you're either in the wrong place or the enemy has been pushed back to their carrier. Both circumstances are standard for any PC Wake Island round.

Had a right old blast on the 360 last night, getting into games was a hell of a lot easier, but i did notice some players were lagging quite bad, it was a pain because the rest were fine,  i can only assume that some peoples hamsters are not running fast enough and this is affecting the connection.

You guys are all getting worked up over GB holding off a review because of the 360 version, and I'm scratching my head for an entirely different reason. I honestly didn't expect this game to be as popular as it is on launch. I mean, looking at brad's quick look, it looks exactly like every other battlefield game. But I suppose if you break it down:

Slow time for games right now  +  15 dollars  /  console owners who haven't played BF or don't have a gaming rig = Success

I'm applauding DICE for having a completely ingenious launch and making lots of money from it.

Seems fine now on 360 wasnt having any problems on Saturday so I guess the usual story of EA and Dice taking a couple of days to remember what happened with the last Battlefield Game. 

It works great for me, despite a few hiccups trying to join games with multiple people in the squad.

What happened to reviewing games in release condition? If a PC game came out which was virtually unplayable, and the publisher promised that a patch was coming soon, then reviewers wouldn't wait a week/month for the patch to come out before reviewing it. They would review the game as-released and give it an appropriately low score. Publishers should not be given a pass on releasing games in an unplayable state.

Not to sound angry, but wtf? If the game is working on the PS3 version then base your review on that. Why would you wait for the 360 version to be working fine and just ignore the perfectly working PS3 version? They'll play the same. I mean if the 360 version of Modern Warfare 2 comes out and doesn't work for over a week, but the PS3 version is working fine, then why would you make us all wait for your word on the GAME not the condition of the servers for one of the consoles.

Just put up an update once the 360 version is working fine and let people know "hey they are good and now have the same score we gave the PS3 version."

Hate to say it, but this is somewhat bias guys. It's seriously inexcusable. =/

Edit: Oh and just to point out that Giantbomb is getting a little heavy on the 360 love over the PS3 look at the vids to do with fighting games. They are all reviews based off of the 360 version. You are seriously going to sit there and tell us the 360 controller is the one you prefer to use to review a fighting game when it's almost common knowledge the PS3 d-pad is superior.

To make it even worse in the recent King of Fighters 12 video you put up to talk about the online  you are playing the 360 version of it when it is the LESSER version for the online. The ps3 version will have online clans but the 360 one won't. It's just worth noting that you might want to either A) stop reviewing the gimped format or B) review both versions equally.

Again the bias is there and easy to see. Now what is Giantbomb going to do about it?

But he's talking about multiplatform games. Those games you mentioned are just single platform. Which anyways I feel Kronoms pain. Anyways, I know how this argument goes. And it's stupid because it's game journalism there shouldn't be a specific console to play multiplat games because that's favoritism. And I'm beginning to believe those people. Look it, we're at a time where the 360 and PS3 are the same console as far as gaming goes. But their only difference is their social aspect and how you get your movies and tv shows. So start relizing that GiantBomb. Everyone wants this game review. Don't hold out because you have more friends on Xbox Live. "

The game is a lot of fun, but the connection problems need to be fixed and fast.

Why are some whinging about not getting a review up yet? grow up will you.  I would tend to think that people who were going to buy it anyway would have bought it even if the review came out the same day as release or the day after.

So, i don't mean this to sound harsh, but this kind of thing didn't stop you from reviewing Demigod, so why are you holding back on reviewing this game? If you are going to review a game like Demigod, and give it a lesser score because the servers were not stable, then you should treat every game the same way. Including this one.

Also, why don't you guys drop your bias for a moment, and actually review something on the PS3 besides a PS3 exclusive?

same issues here with the online servers, fun game but i have also had weird crashing with artifacts that you see in PC games when your graphics card is too hot. never seen that in a console game before so thats kinda crazy as well. but i am digging the game. Would like more maps though as all of them are basically the same just the island is shaped a bit different, and am a long time BF fan so not much new in it.

GiantBomb is, to a lesser extent, a game reviews site. We come here for many things, one of which are reviews. You, the GiantBomb staff, shouldn't be shunning a version of a game because it doesn't work right on one system. If this was your house, and your personal preference, then sure fine go ahead and wait for the 360 version. But the fact of the matter is, this isn't.

You guys are supposed to be professionals!

You can't say NO we're not gonna review this game because our choice system won't work it right, when our lesser choiced system will run it (and run it buttery smooth in my opinion) just fine.

Of course, I'm not running this site, so you guys can do whatever you want. But you need to face facts, not every reader here prefers the 360, and you have to cater to them, because, as I hope you know, the readers are your livelihood. Its not as if the PS3 isn't a social system, it just isn't as good as the Xbox. It still has it, so that arguement is moot.

The reason is because there are just more 360 owners trying to play than the PS3.  It's not really a technical issue, it's logistic.  You'd think though that EA and DICE would have an idea about the community size from Bad Company numbers.  That ran great on XBL.

You know what? Everyone needs to calm down. You know why? Because it doesn't matter.  Were any of you sitting at your computer just begging for the Battlefield 1943 review before anything else? No. It is not something worth fighting about. Come on people, just take it easy.

No.  It makes perfect sense if you're not a fucking moron.

If I may re-emphasize my previously ignored post: this is an ONLINE-ONLY GAME.  How it runs, how the server structure is, how the matchmaking works, how the community is, how easy it is to get into a working game; all of these are part and parcel with how the game is.  It doesn't matter if the game is the best multiplayer ever created; if none of those work, the game is shit.  It makes absolutely no sense for them to give a qualitative review of just one of the versions - if they only review one version, then they potentially rate an experience that is not analogous on the other platform.  We don't know when or if the 360 version will work as well as the PS3 version, and the problems are obviously bad enough that they don't feel comfortable rating it.

They're doing the right thing here by sitting on a review until they feel like they can say something that correctly speaks to both versions of the game; how any one can accuse them of being fanboys or biassed is beyond me.  Then again, this is the internet.
