You'll have to wait another year to get the combination of tremendous dragons and trendy headphones that you've been waiting for.

In a blogpost made this morning, PlatinumGames announced that their upcoming action RPG Scalebound has been pushed until 2017. The main thrust? They're making a very, very big game (especially by Platinum's standards) and they just need more time:

Development on the game is going well and we’re really happy with how it’s coming together. Scalebound is one of the biggest games PlatinumGames has ever created: an epic adventure filled with exploration and fantasy gameplay, inventive multiplayer, and action-packed battles on an unbelievable scale – all set in a beautiful and evolving world. It’s the game our team has always dreamed of making.

In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017. This will give us the time needed to bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned.

As always, I'd rather see a game given the time it needs to be completed than to see it rush out the door.

PlatinumGames debuted Scalebound as an Xbox One Exclusive at E3 2014 and first offered gameplay footage during Gamescom 2015. In some ways, the action looks a little more restrained than Platinum's other work. But then again, it also has a giant dragon that destroys buildings on your command, so maybe that explosive energy has just been redirected. In any case, I'm curious to see what Hideki Kamiya can bring to the action RPG genre.

Platinum wasn't the first game-related delay of the year, though. Back on the the first, Oculus announced that the Oculus Touch controllers won't be ready to ship alongside the headset, but will release sometime in the second half of the year. I'm guessing we'll be seeing some more delays over the next month or so.

If you're curious about what's currently on the slate for 2016, take a listen to the most recent Beastcast, where we take a look forward at some of the games coming out next year.
