Xbox One Exclusive Scalebound Delayed Until 2017

Delays always bum me out, but hey better they take their time.

This was the game I bought my Xbox One for to begin with.

Well, at least they are announcing this early and not somewhere in October this year after a failed crunch time.

I'm sad it's delayed since this is one of the games I was interested in this year but giving more time for Platinum to make a game is never a bad idea. It's one less game I can buy this year so my backlog is fine with this news

That's fine, since there are plenty of games coming out next year anyhow. I'm glad that they announced the delay early enough.

What they showed at Pax Prime looked dope as hell, and could potentially lead to some fucking awesome battles, im good with letting them take their time

I wonder if it's just as much about how many exclusives Microsoft has this year instead of whether Scalebound could be finished by the fall. Halo Wars 2, Quantum Break, Gears of War 4, Crackdown 3, Recore, Sea of Thieves...why add a new IP to that mix? I think it'll be very similar to Quantum Break/Titanfall and even Bloodborne on PS - a spring release next year.

Considering how pivotal to VR-only experiences those Oculus Touch controllers seem, and how expensive VR-grade GPUs are right now (with AMD shouting about how much more power-efficient their new cards will be, even to nVidia and their recent higher-efficiency designs), I think this is enough to make me wait for the Autumn (my current GPU does not meed the specs required).

As always, I'd rather see a game given the time it needs to be completed than to see it rush out the door.

Platinum is making too many games!

Honestly, I'm still not interested in this game. What they've shown just doesn't appeal to me. Maybe the multiplayer will save it, or maybe something more in-depth will get me excited. However, nothing about this feels good.

I mean whatever when does Nier come out.

I haven't been following it. Is this supposed to be Platinum's take on a Souls style game?

Only worried that they have like 4 games (or parts of game) in production/almost done production, so one of these will not live to expectation.

The only question is which one?

Take the time to make it good, if they need a freaking year then it needed to bake in the oven longer.

I'm curious what the Xbox One lineup looks like this year. We have Fable Legends, Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, Quantum Break and maybe Sea of Thieves. This is probably the year for another Forza Horizon game. That's a fairly solid lineup already without knowing what they are holding back for E3, so they didn't necessarily need Scalebound but if Sony finally starts delivering on all those exclusives they been delaying then Microsoft could be the one looking a bit light this fall.

Well at least we weren't told this months before launch. This is the first of the half a dozen game delays that will happen this year probably.

And so it begins. More games coming out this year will be delayed. The flip side, is that games these days need time to be perfected. Too many broken games being released lately.

Crackdown 3 and ReCore will be out this year too. I really hope they continue with the Forza: Horizon, those games have been my favorite games each year they are out.

Oh right, so they have a pretty solid list of Fall games already then.

I'm probably getting cynical with age. If making the game they want to make takes until 2017, why did they say 2016 before?

@jarno: I can only assume one of 3 things:

1) they pulled a Bungie story (destiny) and scraped the original and are now trying to stitch things together

2) they pulled a Bungie level design (halo 2) and realized nothing was working right so they tossed all the old and are working on new.

3) they pulled a Bungie total rework (halo) and instead of doing 3rd person action adventure they are gonna make a moba cause that's what the Xbox needs now.

Because projections change pretty often. They assumed they could target a fall 2016 release, as they've been working, they either realized its going to take a few more months or Microsoft gave them a chance to work on the game longer and not contend with a relatively packed 2016 holiday lineup.

Yesterday I made the decision to sell my xbox one as I only purchased it for Halo 5 and was disappointed enough to have no desire for further play after a few weeks. Good to see my decision was sound as it looks like there will be plenty of time to buy another one before any real quality exclusives are released.

Buying a console for one game, selling it because you were disappointed in one game, and planning to re-buy the same console in the future is a sound decision? Perhaps you should have given games like Forza 6, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Horizon 2, Titanfall, Sunset Overdrive, et al. a try before commenting on the quality of the exclusives. It's also awfully presumptuous to assume that no Xbox One exclusive that comes out between now and 2017 will be quality, but you may resume patting yourself on the back now, I guess.

I played all of those other than Forza to completion (which for Titanfall means putting about 100 hours or so into multiplayer). Thus my decision to sell the device as there's nothing else I want to play on it and that seems to be the case for the foreseeable future. I don't like having machines that sit around collecting dust when I could be spending that money on other devices/games. I'm not sure why you took such personal offense to my statements; the lady doth protest too much, methinks.

On one hand I'm kinda a Platinum fan boy and want Scalebound to be as good or (ideally) better than any of their projects to date.

On the other hand I hope it's not, strictly because don't want to have to buy an X-Box One. Not because I hate the system, just my wallet will hate me for it.

That being said, if it's Platinum's take on Monster Hunter with a little Drakengard thrown in I'm on board.

When I saw that game first show it's gameplay I couldn't get past how bad the frame rate was so hopefully the extra time is also gone into improving that.

If I recall the studio has a lot on its plate. Better the game is good, than bad and on time. Delays are good in most cases.

Seeing as how they're working on Scalebound, Metroid Hunters and Nier: Automata (and the four other titles they haven't announced yet), I see plenty of delays in their future. I wonder how big the studio is. It would be cool if the Dumptruck pulled up and snagged an interview with Kamiya, ask how the studio was started, and why they're seemingly developing all the games now.

Kamiya can have as much time as he needs. We have plenty of good games lined up for 2016. If I see one whiny comment in this thread...

@infantpipoc: No, because Comcept is content to make shitty games. They get their money up front usually so they don't care if the game isn't all that well designed or programmed.
