XCOM Delayed Past March, No Hints For Grand Theft Auto V

Spec Ops: The Line coming before next holiday, and BioShock Infinite remains on track.

It's not clear when XCOM will arrive, but it won't be happening until after March 31, 2012.
It's not clear when XCOM will arrive, but it won't be happening until after March 31, 2012.

2K Games had announced XCOM would launch on March 6, 2012, but parent company Take-Two Interactive announced its second quarter fiscal results and revealed the game’s moving past that date.

XCOM is now scheduled for “fiscal 2013,” which is sometime between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013.

Borderlands 2 is in the same boat: fiscal 2013.

Spec Ops: The Line has also seen significant delays, and Take-Two has tweaked its release window to “first half fiscal 13,” which would place the game sometime before the holidays.

And what about Grand Theft Auto V? As per usual, Take-Two is quiet on the latest from Rockstar Games. The company is typically conservative about disclosing anything regarding Rockstar products, and it’s not surprising Grand Theft Auto V is no different. Both the platforms and and release date (even year!) are both listed as “TBA.” Perhaps hope for a Wii U version?

Lastly, BioShock Infinite remains a "calendar year 2012," which means it's on track for...well, next year.

Another delayed Morgan Gray game. Not going to get Dark Voided again. Forgetting XCOM.

Shame about Xcom being delayed but if it means being more polished, fair be it.

Good news but I'd rather they just cancelled it.

That's kind of a mean thing to say. I don't think the delays are solely his fault.

I want XCOM SO Badly right now! I do think its a smart move to get it away from Mass Effect 3, but I would have hoped they would have set a more firm date for it!

There are not many games that come out in that time frame, and having it somewhere in the Feb-May time frame with a good marketing push behind it could serve it well, but I trust THQ to do the right thing for a game that has as much potential as XCOM does! :D

Why? The more recent impressions from E3 this year were quite positive (after the initial negative impressions). Why cancel a potentially really cool game instead of giving it more time if it needs that?

Also very glad to hear Spec Ops: The Line is still alive, I really hope they can realize their vision and do awesome stuff with the sand combat!

Greg Kasaavin left that team and helped to make an entire game while Spec Ops: The Line has been in delayed.

Reeeaaally looking forward to XCOM, so this news is kind of a bummer. But more time generally isn't a bad thing, hoopefully we'll get some real news about it soon.

@sofacitysweetheart: He was the producer on Dark Void, and Giant Bomb ended up interviewing him a bunch of times.

Spec Ops: The Line is still a thing, eh?  Nolan North is the main character.  That's how long that game has been in development.

It was dumb to put Mass Effect clone XCOM up against Mass Effect 3 in the first place.

I had a feeling XCOM would be delayed. Was looking pretty rough around E3 time; a bit too rough for my liking.

Seriously, take all the time you want. I'm drowning in "need-to-play" titles. All I ask is you take this time and put it to good use. Rock solid guys

Why? Mass Effect 3 will be nothing like Mass Effect, and I for one would love some more Mass Effect.

I seriously cannot believe The Line is still being made. Not that that's a bad thing, I'm just amazed their still trucking along.

Biggest problem with this news? This game already looks old. Delaying it will do it no favors in that department.

2K Marin has already lost multiple lead developers/designers, and this delay only helps cement the idea that XCOM was never going to be anything beyond a mediocre game. I wouldn't be suprised if they continue to lower expectations to the point where they can just quietly cancel the game.

I would be more inclined to buy Xcom if they simply dropped the Xcom part with went with an original IP.

GTA5 will be out at the end of the first calendar quarter of 2013. Or in T2 terms, Early fiscal 2014

I'm always game for more GTA and I hope this turns out to be inaccurate, because I think we'd all be let down with whatever they managed to roll out at this point on these elderly platforms. Why release it on almost eight year old hardware when you could develop for a more robust system maybe six months later? It'll avoid any unwarranted perceptions of the franchise based on hardware limitations and they can always just backport it to the prior generation at the same time. Since we would probably not see a GTA VI for several years after V, I find it really hard to believe a "next generation launch" wouldn't be likely.

Then again, I'm just sitting here trying to talk it into reality :P

Dear developers and publishers:

Please put everything off into calendar year 2013. We'd like to catch up on everything from 2011, as it is.

Thank you.

I'm still excited about X-COM. I liked the work that 2K Marin did with Bioshock 2, so I'm expecting some pretty big things from them on this one.

As for Spec Ops: The Line, I was interested when Greg was involved. Now, not so much.

I don't mind XCOM being delayed as long as it means that it'll be more polished than it seemed to be at E3 and good and ready for release come 2013. I just hope it doesn't mean "delayed into oblivion and consequently mediocrity." I am genuinely looking forward to XCOM. I feel I go into games with reasonable expectations and a level head so I'd really like not to be disappointed because they didn't utilize the extra time properly.

GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire all came out in late April/May so I wouldn't be surprised to see this game come out around the same time in 2012. By the time they show trailers of these games they're usually pretty far along in development.

A new X-COM game..hmmm. Haven't really enjoyed any of them, except the first one, Enemy Unknown. Wonder how this will fare.
