Your Unopened Game Pile of Shame

I have a list of games just like you're talking about on my profile.  I call it ProcrastiNation.
My unfinished hall of shame reads like a Game of the Year contenders list for the past decade.  At least I know I've got some quality games left to tackle!
(This is also why I haven't bought a game for myself since March.)

• Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots (I still don't own a PS3, but I own this game.)

I have a really terrifying amount of unfinished games..  But completely unplayed?  Right now, Dead Space and a Phoenix Wright game I bought months ago.  I still have to beat the one before it, and Nintendo has tricked me into buying DS games on the fear that they have such totally short runs that they can become impossible to find if you wait.

My twisted insane justification for having so many unfinished games is that I pirated video games so terribly when I was child that I am trying to atone for my sins.  There's actually some equity to this arrangement because I attribute a decent chunk of the fact that I have a pretty nice job now because of the foundation of skills I acquired.. erm.. engaging.. in the act of acquiring and playing C64 and PC games.  Yea, it's convoluted, but it's also true.

When I actually do sit down and play a game all the way through over the course of a week or so, I consider that game to be rockin'.  In recent memory that would be Bioshock, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, The World Ends With You (great hook, but got progressively more disappointing), Half Life 2 and the episodes, Portal, Call of Duty 4, and the Guitar Heroes.  I'm making a good clip through Fable 2 now, in large part because of the decent co-op actually giving me a way to play while I have company.

If you are obsessive about starting games and lose interest in them fast, and can't afford it, I'd recommend you get GameTap and stick with that for awhile.  You'll have tons of games to start, screw around with for a bit, and find one you'll stick with.

This is the reason I read reviews from every games journalist. Then I buy games that I want to play, not because they are overrated or they look cool

I finished every single game I bought.

I guess I'm not in the average because that's totally false with me.  I don't own any movies, and I own just 12 games, and there's no way I would ever buy a game and not open it.

Psychonauts? I'm sorry, but you need to play that game right fucking now.

Psychonauts, Beyond Good and Evil, Command and Conquer Generals and Far Cry 2 are all sitting right in front of me,  unopened-unloved-unplayed.
Makes me feel dirty...

I don't have any unopened games. Every single I ever bought I have at least played for a little bit. But I have a metric fuckton of games that I never finished. So many that I won't even begin to list them.

Here are the games in my "not finished pile". I've acctually started playing almost all of them, though finishing them is a hole 'nother story.

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - More than half way through, plans on finishing it sooner or later.
Dragon Quest 8 - To hard, to slow, I'm somewhere after doulmagus. given up on this one.
Advance Wars: Dual Strike - played a couple of missions up until the point you had to start thinking. Given up on this one.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 - About a third into it I think, plan on finishing it someday
Final Fantasy XII - Somewhere in the beginning, plan on finishing it someday.
The World Ends With You - Close to the ending, really need to finish this one.
Phoenix Wright 2 - Playing of and on, last case should finish it soon
Phoenix Wright 3 - Not opened, waiting to finish PW2
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - Way to stupid hard, basically given up on this.
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword - About halfway through, someday I say.
Persona 3 - Not opened, Planning on playing someday
Starwars: the force unleashed - Playing through now
Final Fantasy IV - Halfway through, will finish someday.
Metroid Prime 3 - In the beginning somewhere, would probably start from the beginning if I was gonna play it again.
Grand Theft Auto 4 - About a fifth into the game I reckon, someday...

So yeah that's the list...I blame WoW...

I never buy games unless I know I'm going to play them. Don't have that much money to spend around aimlessly.

My first blog post has a photo of my pile of unbeaten games, which is now almost as tall as I am. The rest of the blog tracks me trying to finish all of them, including small reviews of each one I beat. Take a look - no one else is...

Off the top of my head?  Morrowind, Gears of War, and Freespace spring to mind.  Hitman 2 used to be on that list, but then I tried it and hated it.

Oh my God! - Each of you has a game in your list that I'd put in my top 20 games of all time! Ryan, you definitely win - Ocarina of Time IS the best of game of  all time - you really should get around to giving that a go some time!

... Suppose I can't judge too much, my list inlcudes GRAW 2, Spliter Cell Pandora Tomorrow and (I'm really ashamed of this)... Call of Duty 4 (I just couldn't fit it in with all the Halo 3 multiplayer I was doing  the time!)

Metroid Prime is mine.  And with GTA IV I am maybe 20% through...I just can't get through it.  I pick up other games and that one is for another day.

I definitely have played everything I've bought, however I've not always finished it. :P

I don't have that kind of disposable income. I've played all the games I've ever bought. Which isn't to say I've beat them all. I played very little of Katamari Damacy. That game never really clicked with me. I didn't play much of Viva Pinata either. If I like a game though I try to beat it. I'm not the kind of person who usually gives up halfway on games. That's just wasting money. I can understand not being able to play through all your games from the game reviewer perspective though.

COD4, only one for me

I'm glad to say that while I have plenty of unfinished games I have finished around 90% of the games I do own, and there's not a single unopened game to my name.

With hopes to rewards for the bombers.  How about creating a prize closet to distribute old games you no longer want or need.  J-Gerst, you get a pass.  I haven't played many of those games on anyone's list anyway so I'm not rattled by many of these still in the case.  Now, FF VII, that's a shocker!

I've never bought a game and then not played it. The closest thing I've got to that is Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, which I played once, realized it sucked epic amounts of ass, and never touched again. I leave it on my shelf to remind me that just because a game is in a series I like doesn't mean it will automatically be great.

I have over 1100 games.  400 are still unplayed.  Its the great paradox of getting older: you finally have the income to buy any  games you want...and yet there is never any time to play them.  My inner child weeps.

I own Viewtiful Joe and have never played it.

Yeah I guess it's a side effect of getting older.  When I was younger I played the hell outta all my games, now i'm 22, still young in comparison, but my time for gaming is not what it use to be.  I remember trying over and over agin to beat parts of games I was constantly dying at, but now I find myself turning off the game after a couple botched attempts.  Damn you age, damn you...

GRAW 1, Mass Effect, Perfect Dark Zero. Dont think I will ever play em besides mass effect. In time guys in time! I have heaps more but not for my 360.

Only recently has this happened to me. My college workload has gotten so huge that I pumped myself up to go buy the Fallout 3 collector's edition and all I have done is given myself a killer beard. I'm going to try to play through the rest of Dead Space this weekend so I can start playing it proper. Sadly, Rock  Band 2 hasn't gotten nearly enough play from me either, as my "band" has been having a hard time getting together lately. I need Guitar Hero, too...

Damn Brad, still haven't played Super Mario Galaxy?  I can't believe Jeff hasn't either.  And Ryan has got to make time for those FF games sometime before another ten years pass.  I'll admit though, I've got plenty of games I have yet to start either though, one of those being Oblivion Game of the Year edition.  Many of the games I haven't played are RPGs or strategy RPGs, so who knows if I'll ever be able to complete them.  I also have a goal of beating the Resident Evil games and Mega Man games soon, but that is another project in itself.

Prey, Pariah, Sin...can't think of anything else right now, but the list of games that I've played for 30min or less and then never played again is muuuuuuuuuuuch longer =(

Mostly some 8-16 bit stuff I got when a local KB Toys cleared out their stock to make room for the Playstation launch.  Who could pass up some great games for $10 each and a brand new Nintendo Advantage and Super Advantage sticks for $5?  I bought about 20 games and 4-5 accessories, many of which still sit in a drawer.  Some of those ended up being dome of the more rare RPGs of the 16 bit era.

I've got some Saturn, Jaguar, 3DO, PSX, and Dreamcast games (mostly imports) that I picked up used from local shops when the big bootleg phenomenon happened and the price of legal copies was worthless since only "suckers" bought legit copies.  I got a great deal on some games, and they got raided.  Who's the sucker now?

So far I just have Yakuza 2 and Disgeae 2...
