Freedom Cry gets a stand-alone release.

I think it's flippin' awesome for Ubisoft to do that. Wish more games would do stand-alone DLC. Hopefully this is a trend more publishers pick up. I'd prefer it, if pretty much all meaty DLC was stand-alone. Hell - why shouldn't even multiplayer expansions be stand-alone? While I don't want to put down 60$ to play CoD Ghosts, I might give a 15$ map pack a shot, if one of their trailers resonates with me. I guess the same might apply for the CoD crowd and Battlefield expansions. Or the upcoming singleplayer DLC for The Last of Us. If it was stand-alone, anybody could jump in and get a taste.

Also - stand-alone DLC is kinda platform agnostic. So regardless what platform I want to play it on, I can get it there, regardless of where I've played the core game. I might only have lent a game from a friend, but would love to play the DLC. Ectera.

Cool beans Ubisoft! I'll likely get my first taste of Black Flag this way. Still waiting on that digital sale for the main game though (fucking hate that I missed the PSN Christmas flash sale for the PS3 version, which would have netted me a PS4 copy for under 40 bucks via the Upgrade Option.)
