Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand this is the first Assassin's Creed game where our assassins can bring in targets alive. Usually it's the bonus objective for the Bounty Hunt missions. Now I don't have a problem with adding new methods to the assassin's tool box, but it seems the developers haven't quite fully implemented this system.

This game's enthusiasm for killing these bounty targets has been a source of endless frustration for me!

I can chalk up the handful of times I assassinated my off screen target I intended to take in alive from a high perch when highlighting a different nearby target to usual Assassin's Creed jenk. Incredibly frustrating, but not especially out of the norm for these games. So I decided to knock out my next target, thinking it would be safe from harm. In possibly the most baffling event in my gaming history Evie STILL managed to kill this poor man. I was attempting to fight a gang member who was right on top me instead she executed the unconscious body of my target! I tried very hard not to break my glasses as I sat here alone and rubbed my face in disbelief and exclaimed out loud in an embarrassingly high pitched voice.

I can't help but compare the Assassin's Creed games to the Arkham series. I'm happy they've finally added a stealth mode and zip lines are nice, but none of it is quite as good. Now Batman specializes in non leathal take downs, and I don't expect non leathal take downs to be as fully featured in an AC game, but I can't help but compare. I've never enjoyed AC's melee combat either and I think they could learns some lessons from Shadow of Mordor, but that's another discussion.

Kidnapping missions were the new escort/tailing missions for me. Easily the worst part of that game (though those horse races are up there) for the reasons you described. As soon as you get spotted it's really hard not to accidentally kill your target in the fighting. I eventually just stopped caring about the bonus for those missions, and if the target died I just kept going.

@cameron: Yeah, that's pretty much how I've been playing it now. I'm happy they've at least stopped with the big "failed" message after a successful mission with failed bonus objectives. I believe the Ezio games did that.

It's another in the long AC line of "fine idea, terrible execution."

I mean, the concept of being able to sneak a target out is cool, but a lot of the level design just sort of ruins it. A lot of I think comes down to the totally haphazard enemy placement. The AC standard is to just sort of vomit out a ton of enemies wherever as opposed to carefully thinking about the encounter. That, combined with the really janky AI led to a lot of situations where it was flat-out impossible to escape with the target because there was no way through the throng of enemies without getting noticed.

Also, a proper targeting system really needs to come back. Killing the wrong dude because someone happened to move half pixel and cause the auto-target to shift gets really obnoxious.

Yeah, save for the races, these were my least favorite side activities.
I've found the most effective way to complete them is to perch up on a building and pick away all of the other enemies with throwing daggers. Then you can hop down and more easily capture your target without as much fear of pressing the wrong button at the wrong time and accidentally killing them.
Smoke pellets are also great for these.

I didn't have any problems getting any of these done. They weren't great, but they weren't frustrating for me either.

Smoke bombs can help, as can eliminating almost all of the surrounding foes with knives from the rooftops.

I had trouble with these missions so I let my brother do them, and he never failed to take a single person alive. The difference, he has a lot more patience than I do and was willing to spend like 10 minutes on the single mission if he needed to.

While ive managed to kill a knocked out target once or twice, knocking them out worked fine for me.

And if I did kill them I would just leave the area until it reset which isn't very far.

Or I just stopped caring and killed them. It's faster.

Never had too much trouble with this once I realised you can just knock them out and carry rather than escort them out.

Not that the bonus objectives are ever really worth bothering with in Syndicate - all you get is some extra gold/xp afaik, which you don't need at all.

I did one just now that I had to restart. I took out a few guards that cleared myself a path to kidnap the guy. But then I noticed one sniper guard that I decided to take out before I left with him. I did that, and went back to pick up the unconscious body, but I accidentally pressed X (square) instead of B.

I find it sort of weird that you can just assassinate unconscious people.

Yeah I did all of these without killing anyone. Required more patience than usual for me. If I got spotted I usually legged it and came back. Some were really frustrating as I saw no clear way through to the target but generally they were okay.
