Ezio is my favourite, but I really like Connor and I prefer the way Connor's story is handled in a fashion that is a bit more grey (and the way his idealistic/naive nature clashes with those grey areas). Personally I would absolutely welcome another game starring Connor, then again I actually liked Assassin's Creed III and by all other accounts the game is pure dogshit so feel free to ignore me.

Altair lacks a personality.
Ezio lacks a character arc.
Connor lacks any sort of consistency.
 
I think Connor ends up taking it, just because his bizarre actions in the story are pretty funny to watch.

Hastings said he joined the Templar at an early age. His father was an assassin which is more than likely whom he got the hidden blades from. It is never said that he was at any time an assassin.

Well I beat the game. What did I miss? The question is about Assassins.

And now, in retrospect, my favorite character of the game was by far Charles Lee. Shame he wasn't even in the game much and the final battle with him was bad.

Ah...it never crossed my mind as to why he had a hidden blade like an Assassin. I wouldn't mind playing some DLC with Haytham if that were possible. Guess it might be problem creating the location tho.

In terms of personality I think Ezio wins, Altair has the most interesting overall story, and Connor is the coolest in concept, and still has potential left in him. I also like Desmond, but his personality is too flat and his opinions are too generic to make him a stand out.

In short, Shaun is the best Assassin.
