Altair is coming back into the fold during Revelations to wrap up lingering mysteries.
Altair is coming back into the fold during Revelations to wrap up lingering mysteries.

If you pick up Assassin's Creed: Revelations for PlayStation 3 on November 15, in addition to having Ezio's final adventure, you'll have a copy of the original Assassin's Creed on the disc, too.

I was working for 1UP when Assassin's Creed came out. I'm not sure if you remember the EGM scores for that game, but it was all over the place. Some people loved it, others hated it, and it caused a bit of a thing for a while there.

Scared off by the mixed response, I ended up skipping over the first one, but then picking up Assassin's Creed II based on the incredible word of mouth--and loving it. I really dig the fiction, too, so it bothers me that I don't know the foundation from the first installment.

Given how far the mechanics jumped from the first game to the second game, however, I'm not sure heading back towards Assassin's Creed would be a very satisfying experience. What say you?

After 2 and Brotherhood I found the first game very very hard to get into. Incredibly tedious (as opposed to the optionally tedious of the other games) I thought the first one was skippable, really.

edit: still a pretty sweet bonus though. Gift horse and all that.

The only problem I had with the first game was how the guards walking around will pick you on the spot if you're "wanted" or if you lightly and accidently hit them. That's all.

Loving all these extras the PS3 is getting. The exclusive SSX mountain, Bioshock 1 is coming with Infinite, Battlefield 1943 with 3, exclusive Need fo Speed cars and all the other ones that came out this year like Dead Space Extraction being packed in with 2. It makes up for some of the key titles I've missed no longer owning a 360, like Dead Rising Case Zero along with other exclusives.

I haven't played the Assassin's Creed games, and I'd like to play them starting from the first one, so if I get a PS3 in the near future, this seems like a good way to do it.

I hated the original when I first went into it, but I found it a lot easier to go back to after playing the other two games, so I think it's worth a shot.

The first game is one of the worst games of all time, I felt. So repetitive, so boring, so soul-sucking...which is weird, because all the other games are great.

I ended up picking up the first after playing the second, myself. It obviously isn't as good, but it's still an enjoyable experience. It's worth doing, just don't expect it to be as amazing an experience as if you had played that it first.

Cool! Even though I already have the game on 360, and got the 360 version because the internet said that the PS3 version of ACI was busted, and it caused my cousin's PS3 to brick-ify.

I suppose it could be good to see how far the series has come.

I wonder how exactly will they handle it.

The original came out before Trophies did and didn't have any. Will this version have it? It's on the ACR disc, or on a separate disc? Does it install with ACR, or have a separate install? Patches? Are the additions that were added to the PC version going to be ported back over? Will Brad play it again?

i don't really see the value in this, i mean i loved the first AC but after playing the other two it would just serve to highlight the problems not the promise the first one had.

I bought the first game a couple months ago, and it was pretty fun. Granted, I played it before playing 2 and Brotherhood, and I did that on purpose to see how it changed over time. I'd say it's worth playing, and if you get it with Revelations, then why not try it.

I loved the original Assassin's Creed. I still think it does some things better than AC2 and Brotherhood, specifically it felt the the only game that really allowed you to go full stealth and kill your target without even knowing you're there. As much as I love Ezio's games, it always feels like there's some sort of cutscene or contrivance that never allows me to stealth kill my targets. It always seems to end in some sort of battle.

Still it's a really neat deal for PS3 owners. Assassin's Creed is by far my favorite new series this generation.

I would skip it, personally. AC1 was a tech demo and proof-of-concept, AC2 was the game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the series and I do like the first one. It has an interesting meditative and methodical tone that the more tightly-scripted later games lack, and the Crusades setting is great. But there's just not enough going on. The game gets very repetitive very quickly. All the pieces are there, but it took AC2 to pull them apart and reconstruct them into something more compelling.

So yeah, jump in and soak up the world a little bit, but I wouldn't bother trying to finish it. There's just not enough there. Wikipedia/YouTube the important story beats (of which there are surprisingly few, actually), then move on to the better stuff.

The first AC had the same problem most of Ubi's big games from Montreal had at the time I found. They had this big open and interesting world to go through, with some really fun mechanics. However, it was plagued with boring and repetitive missions with very little in the way of motivation.

The story was decent, but told in pretty cool narrative way, which is probably the biggest redeeming quality of the game.

Eh, I think you'd be better off watching the ending more than anything. I liked the first game, but it'd be tough to go back to if you've played with AC2's much improved world and sidemissions and AC:B's assassin minions. The first one drags at many points and has only a sprinkling of interesting moments in the Animus. Plus I think they've gotten much better at making the out-of-Animus story interesting and connecting you to those characters as they've gone along.

The first one was great if only for the new mechanics and ideas it introduced. But the later games have improved on that so much that the first game is pretty much obsolete at this point.

I played it when it came out and liked it. Sure, it had it's problems but I loved the fiction and the general badassness.

I'd say it's worth playing through once, just skip everything optional and play through the story. Especially with Revelations referencing Altair, I'd say it's worth it. I for one got some major goosebumps from the cinematic trailer when both Ezio and Altair walked the plank on the tower (referencing a scene from the first game).

I played a little bit of my friends copy but never really got into it. I picked up AC2 as a download for like 10 bucks or so during a psn sale (though I fucked up and bought some of the DLC even though the bundle included it, stupid psn not making it clear >.< ) Never actually started AC2 though and now my PS3 is only limping along :/

This kind of works out for me since the first game is the only one I don't own. I borrowed it from a friend a while back and beat it, and luckily still have the save.

For me, I thought Desmond's side was the more interesting story in the first game. Might consider replaying for story, or if they include trophies (which the first one didn't have).

I really enjoyed the first game. It was definitely repetitive and ACII improved on it in a big way but I was way into the combat and the narrative of Assassin's Creed from the start.

I've played it recently and the first game still holds up well visually and it plays very well too. The open world is pretty amazing and coming over that ridge and seeing all of that massive first city is still a great moment. The game is huge. It was one of the first next-gen games that kind of blew my mind.

It's pretty cool of Ubisoft to put this in with Revelations. That's a lot of content in one package.

AC was flawed, terribly flawed. I enjoyed the experience, but jumping from AC to AC2 made me realize that I never ever want to play AC ever again, that is, unless they decide to redo the first Assassin's Creed, maybe a director's cut? it'd be an interesting mental exercise, how would you fix the initial Assassin's Creed by introducing new game play elements without messing up certain narrative that AC2 presented (dual uh uh uh uh uh knives, for instance).

Sweet. I still liked the first AC even though it got way too repetitive. I know I'd still be pretty glad to jump back in again. It would probably help a little if they actually threw in trophy support for the first AC, but w/e.

The game was... good. But it was a lot worse than the other two. I find it ironic 'cause from what I heard, the PS3 version (which I have and played) was worse. Luckily, you can beat it in a very short amount of time if you stick the just the story missions. Everything except for the tedious aspect of the game, is great.
