The Assassin's Creed franchise follows the never-ending, secret war between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order, in various historical settings, told from the perspective of the modern day.
So I was scrolling through GameInformer like usual when I stumbled upon this article. It's a picture of Assassin's Creed 3, but no one knows if it's real or not. Most people are leaning towards that it must be fake but you know how things get leaked early? Well, some comments on this article state that Ubisoft is going to announce the next Assassin's Creed in May. People even said that 2 symbols at the end of Brotherhood hint that it could be during The French Revolution. I'll post 2 of the comments below. So it either could be really good fan art, or the next Assassin's Creed game in Paris,
during The French Revolution.
So here are two of the comments:
The symbols were not from Egypt. The symbols revealing the location of the temple containing the next Piece of Eden were the Masonic Eye and a symbol that represented freedom. They said there's only one place those converge. i.e. America.
Negative. The symbols are a "Masonic Eye" and a "Phrygian(or Liberty) Cap" These two symbols are used in "The Declaration of The Rights of Man" which is essentially the Declaration of Independence for France. This is the ONLY place in history that you will find those symbols placed together. Thus, AC III is taking place during the French Revolution. Given that UBISOFT is a French company...this is an obvious choice. Pretty exciting!
Well, I'm certain that Desmond will be in NY in AC III, but as far as where he'll go inside the animus... could be anywhere. Also, if you all would finish ACB: The DaVinci Disappearance, you would agree with me.So people either think it'll be in America or France. What do you think? Fake or real?
Assassin's Creed I took place during the Crusades in the 12th Century. Assassin's Creed II takes place 300 years later in the Renaissance during the 15th Century. Whats 300 hundreds years after that? The French Revolution during the 18th Century. This is legit.
So people are pointing the setting in different directions. What do you think? Where do you think it'll take place? Fake or real? Choose!
I'd really be happy in France with the next game. I was actually hoping for either Russia, England or France so it's awesome by me! But something about the art on that doesn't look very Assassin's Creed-y. They don't usually show off such mystical things in the art... the "mysterious" part of the game is always kept very secret. I mean look at the end of AC2. Who the hell seen that coming?
Fake. I think the next will still have Ezio as the playable character. And if you play the Da Vinci DLC, it gives you hints as to where the series is heading next.
It's fake. The fact that the picture tries really hard to look official is what gives it away. That's a movie poster, not something Ubisoft would do for a sequel that we all know is coming.
Is there actually going to be a game called Assassin's Creed 3? I know back when the first one came out they were hyping it up as a trilogy, but I think Brotherhood kind of throw a wrench in things.
@FreakAche: Ubisoft said they would like to make a yearly release like EA and Activision. i wish it would end the franchise, but sadly, they probably won't.
If there was going to be a new Assassin's Creed this year wouldn't they have announced it by now? (Same for a new Call of Duty) Do games get announced at E3 and come out the same year?
I call fake, this rumor ran around before, but right after 2 shipped, and Montreal said first that they weren't sure what they were going to do, and then that this probably wouldn't be it. Seems like someone took that rumor and ran with it. Also, the background looks too blurry to be legit and the light thing by the dude's face looks really poorly done.

" I WANT TO CLIMB THE EIFFEL TOWER "
Built about 100 years later after the time period depicted.
That's a very logical conclusion that AC III is the French Revolution for reasons stated in the OP, but also because I remember Michael Pachter having a slip-up on The Bonus Round around the time AC II was coming out where he said, with a lot of confidence, that it took place during the French Revolution till someone corrected him.
I don't think it's real. Part of the reason being the color scheme of the poster. The color scheme of every AC thing so far has been light to my knowledge.
I'm so into Assassin's Creed right now! I need Brotherhood though. GRRAAAAHHHHH!!!!! I need that, want that. It's actually kind of scary going even further into the future (past) if that's what they do in the next game. AHHHH! I just shit my pants.
@NTM: DUDE! BROTHERHOOD IS AWESOME! THE MULTIPLAYER IS FUN, ADDICTING AND KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT! NOT THAT IT'S SCARY, BUT THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHO'S A REAL PERSON AND WHO'S AN AI! AND THE STORY AND SETTING IS AMAZING! GET IT!
I'm calling fake, but goddamn would it be awesome if it was true. The French Revolution has never been explored, and it's one of the bloodiest chapters in European history.
" I WANT TO CLIMB THE EIFFEL TOWER(Even though the tower wasn't even there during the revolution, I still want to climb it.) "
You could always play Saboteur.
Other than that, I feel that the ending of Brotherhood sets it up so that the setting for Assassin's Creed 3 has to either be during the modern day. Or some guy looking into Desmond's memories in the future...which is too much of going inside the inside, but that is what it seems like it is setting up.
