Every game COULD be wildly different than the last. The one that's coming out this year, new guy new time. That could be anything, it's a clean slate. Not only that but it's another year of getting the new mechanics from ac3 better. I view ac1, the ezio games and ac3 as three different franchises. The jump from 1 to 2 was so amazing, it's hard to believe they were in the same generation. Then ac3 is basically a reboot, starting all over at ac1 with the not so good game. That means the game coming out this year will be the new ac2. They are ditching connor like they ditched altiar and changing setting. I will bet everything on the new guy being way more likable just like ezio. This new one is really the most exciting one in all 5 games, no desmond, no connor, new setting. This new game can be literally anything. Also a separate team spent three years making ac3, so it is very possible that this new one could have been in development for 2 years not just one.
Assassin's Creed
The Assassin's Creed franchise follows the never-ending, secret war between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order, in various historical settings, told from the perspective of the modern day.
The great great thing about the assassin's creed series is...

It could be the pirate game everyone wants or the japan game.
And if you don't want the japan assassin's creed game, I never want to talk to you ever.
Is it bad that I dont want any AC games? Done with the series after 3.
Man, you have a strange way of typing. Anyway. Unfortunately it isn't a clean slate. It's the same franchise and it's rightly going to be compared to AC2 and Brotherhood.
The first Assassin's Creed is still my favorite in the series, I'm definitely not alone in this, and I will argue that it is the best if I have to. If they put air assassinations into that game there would basically be no debate.
It's really tragic that they turned this into an annual franchise. Assassin's Creed just isn't that type of series.

What you should have said was; "You spelled typing wrong, sir."
Indeed. That was one of the paths I was presented with at the fork in the road. At the end of the day I turned from it and that's how we've come to this moment. Things could have been different...so very different...

@Snail: No he's not! I mean, I still like Brotherhood better because I thought Rome was hell of cool, and I was able to build an assassin's guild entirely out of pretty blonde women, but that first game is pretty great too.

You like to correct spelling, I like to correct sentence structure. We all have our vices.
I really liked the idea yeah, new time periods and assassins! New fighting style, people and historical fun to be had!
But then we got the Ezio games and I really lost focus. I hope the next AC is something fresh (completely) again. Perhaps next gen?
Man, I always have such uncommon opinions.
I didn't like AC2 all that much. So much promises and potential, thrown away. They tease gadgets invented by Leonardo, yet you get your pistol really, really late, and that flying machine gets little to no use. I didn't like the clumsiness of the double blades, the downright broken economy, the main character and his glossy costume and the setting as a whole, except for Venice. One thing I did love was the inclusion of the crypts.
I prefer AC3 by a large margin. It is, to me, the best AC experience to date. The combat, the graphics, the naval combat, the hunting, the parkour in trees and so on. Connor also resonates with me a lot more than Ezio did.

Rome is hell cool indeed, but the broken pointless economy system is still there in Brotherhood, the dumb half-baked RPG-esque "health bar" and "upgrade system" are still there (and the Animus "synchronicity gauge" still isn't), and the game is too damn easy to go through because you can call a bunch of assassins to murder fools at almost any given time. Like seriously, a large portion of that game becomes almost without challenge because of that feature.
Also the story got dumb after ACII's stupid ending.
Yeah It totally agree with the OP.
I'm a big fan of history and what I've always loved about the series is imagining what they could do next.
