On Day 3 of Giant Bomb's E3 coverage, Austin Walker made it known that next week would be his final week with the company. There's been many rumours and speculation about where he was going since and it has now be confirmed that Austin is working with Vice on a new gaming website.

The news came from Variety.com with an exclusive article on Austin departure.

The article states:

The new Vice gaming site will encompass original video, including some live-streamed programming, Walker said. Separately, Vice this summer is launching five gaming documentaries, sponsored by Taco Bell. The first, “Pixel by Pixel,” launched this week with an eight-minute profile of Alx Preston, developer of indie game “Hyper Light Drifter.” The next in the series is “Versus,” an eSports documentary about the game “Smite,” slated to be released in August.

This is even bigger than I thought it would be, holy crap! Giant opportunity for Austin, hope he crushes it.

It is kind of weird seeing the Vice Gaming guys on the Twitch stream during E3 to introduce their short documentary videos and then finding out at the end of the same week that Austin was heading there to run that site.

Anyways, congrats to Austin! Big step up for sure.

It sounds like Vice is creating a network similar to what Gawker Media and Vox have set up. What a goddamn get to have Austin head up the gaming channel. Seeing how he has vetted freelancers for the site, and I sure he will make that place great.

Now it's time to hire all of the Streamfriends and take over the game industry.

seriously though sounds like a great opportunity for him to run the show. i'm hoping there's enough room for another website; with the way things are thinning out there very well could be.

Not many get the chance to start their own gaming site backed by a major company. This seems like a fantastic job opportunity.

Man, he brought a whole fresh outlook to GB. Definitely bummed out.

Can't wait to see what he does. While Austin added a ton to Giantbomb, I think he would be better suited to his own site so he could dig into the things he's really interested in. I'll definitely be following whatever he ends up doing.

I have to echo everyone else's sentiment, losing Austin is awful as he brought so much to the GBeast crew... but on the flip side moving up to run your own site is an opportunity that I don't think anyone can pass up.

Thank the stars it's not Polygon. Interesting to see what a gaming website shaped from the ground up with Austins help will end up being. He will certainly have a bigger studio!

Hate to see him go but hopefully Vice allows him to focus on writing and introspection that he does so well. Also hope Vice gives him time to do Vinnyvania streams and Beastcasts.

This is the best possible reason for leaving and I'm crazy happy that it's actually real. Austin getting the chance to run his own gaming site from the ground up with a larger company backing him is an absolute dream. I'm so happy for and proud of this man that I've never met!!!

@hodor: Is Vice that close to where CBS is in New York? I know he said he'd still be around, but I didn't think it'd be very often.

Either way, that's a pretty amazing upgrade for Austin; running his own website is probably going to increase his workload even more.

Super happy for him but My God am I bummed out, the last episode of the Beastcast was SO GOOD and Austin has amazing chemistry with Vinny/Alex.

The only gaming site that exists to me is GiantBomb, but I did like that weird faux Vice documentary.

Seems like a cool new gig. I'm definitely more interested in a new website with someone like Austin at the helm.
