Sure, these days have almost every game sporting the newfangled 3D, but way back when, everyone had to live with plain old 2D. 2D, or two dimensions, limit the game to scrolling backgrounds, but some games even now make use of this basic concept.

An AI companion is a computer-controlled ally who follows and aids you through your adventures or who requires your protection. The AI companion's survival is often essential to game and story progression.

A boss fight is a culminating challenge that pits the player against one or more enemies representing a greater threat and/or difficulty than those previously faced. These scenarios typically feature unique antagonists.
During boss battles, sometimes the boss kills their own henchmen. This concept is often used as a way of demonstrating a boss' wrath.
In video games, breaking the fourth wall occurs when a game becomes aware of its nature as a game, or when a character directly acknowledges the player.
Bruisers are characters who depend on their fist and realize that most of life's problems can be solved with a punch. Typically bruisers don't fight with any real style or technique, instead they tend to simply rely on raw strength.
Some cooperative games let the players pick up and toss each other around. Sometimes this serves a purpose, like killing an enemy or leap over a gap but most of the time it just serves as an aspiration to great assholery.
