I figured my embarrassment at not knowing about all the features here on Bastion helped shame me into downloading the game and trying it out. It's fairly easy to understand, but the text doesn't seem to be helping me in this regard. Not sure what happened, wonder if anyone out there had a similar problem and knows how to fix it. Namely:

I added the WTF, but all the text in the game that isn't subtitles has filler text (Latin) and variable names (like LoadHint_Roll above) rather than the text itself. I wonder if this has something to do with localization, but I have no idea. The only real problem when actually playing is that the instructions are all crazy wrong. Another example:

Any help would be appreciated, including pointing me to a relevant post or FAQ or something. Thanks!

@Sweep: If there's a way to change the language I'm not sure. I'll dig around in the settings a bit to see if I missed something.

If by downloading you mean pirated it, that might be why.

Try adding the "-lang en" parameter to your shortcut.

@AndrewB: Oh, and I wanted to thank you for naming that pseudo-latin that I've seen elsewhere. I was never sure what to call it so I didn't know how to look up the practice. According to wiki it's something people have been doing since the sixties as placeholder text, apparently.

@ahoodedfigure: Yup. I only really knew it from website design mockup placeholder text. I figured Bastion would be spitting out more angry debug error codes rather than Lorem Ipsum.

I've seen the lorem ipsum thing show up on Bastion before, but in my case it was just a one-off issue that fixed itself upon restarting. There's a certain tolerable limit of "*shrug*, indie games" with bugs like this, but I guess if it had persisted it might've been a bother.

But hey you fixed it, so... pointless comment?

@Mento: No comment is pointless as long as it isn't strangely mean or blank. I don't think I'm so post-modern as to start nod knowingly at blank comments. At least not yet.

It was persistent, even when I re-installed the thing. But the change in command line thing was an instant fix. I know it's par for the course sometimes, with big and small releases, I just felt it would have helped to know what some of the text was saying so I thought I'd stamp that bug as quick as possible.

I've seen it actually printed on a game box once, PC BEST BUY's Scandinavian budget release of No Respect, they had the flags for descriptions in Danish, Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian, but everything but the Finnish part was Lorem Ipsum placeholder text. Not sure if the Finnish thing was comprehensible to a Finn, but at least it looked like proper Finnish. A bit late, but I managed to track down one of the Lorem Ipsum copies of No Respect again, this time I bought it (despite already owning a copy of it).

@fisk0: Ah, it was manufactured in Denmark. Seems like it hopped over whoever was in charge of translation :) I wonder if they were thinking at the time "wow, that was easy!" Great find, thanks :)
