Gameplay
This is the Batman game I've been waiting for. Batman as a pure brawler? No thanks, it sums up some of the most exciting parts of the movies we've loved and the comics we've read, but this doesn't capture it all. But Batman as a Stealth/Action hybrid with Condemned-esque detective sequences to it? YES PLZ. The demo gave me an enjoyable blend of all of that, and as a stealth-leaning person, I found the predator aspects, ie - "the hunt", the most exciting.
Technical
I ran the game at 1680x1050 with everything on 'Highest' and all effects 'On' bar Motion Blur and Anti-Aliasing and it looked gorgeous. Perfect framerate at all times, sharp enough textures, and great modelling. PhysX was also turned off.
The only downsides would have to be the speech animaiton, and the positioning of the camera at certain times. It had a tendency to drift right ala Fallout 3, not something I'm really a fan of, but not that big a deal.
Ultimately, it's turned it into a must-buy for me. I was on the fence before, but the atmosphere of it all reminded me of some kind of a 3rd Person Chronicles of Riddick, which I loved to bits. (Let's not mention Dark Athena.)
It's unfortunate that us PCers will have to wait the extra month or so for TECHNICALNOTSALESREASONS, but thanks to the demo I know I'm going to be quite happy.
While We Wait
The Pantheon also recommends The Thief Series (including fan made T2X), Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Chronicles Of Riddick: EFBB
The whole thing just felt very polished. The 'freeflow combat' wasn't anything mind-blowing, but importnatly it felt fun. Plus the little slow-mo flourishes and dutch angles when you take someone down really helped to build that immersion that you were Batman.
It felt much more satisfying with the pad, but control is pretty good with the mouse also. It felt natural to be able to cooordinate attacks with mouse by panning from one enemy to the next in combos. I am getting the 360 version though, I'm not waiting, plus I want the DLC that may come. Here's hoping for a new Batman suit Avatar.
No need for a pad, but the option's there if you're a stickler for that sort of thing. It's looking to be yet another great PC localisation to add to the list for 2009!
@ThePantheon: Nice! Thanks. I imagine the Batarang (sp?) will benefit from the added speed and accuracy.
I am in line to pick this up in September if I can. I want to see the mods that people will make for it. :-)
played both of demo's now, the PC and PS3 one.
has anyone else tried playing the game with the physX stuff enabled? I think the smoke defiantely looked alot better than the PS3 but other than that I couldn't notice much of a difference... GFX on the PC version obviously look alot better with 4x AA going on, I'm not sure which version to get now.
The PS3 has two advantages over the PS3 one, Trophies and any eventual DLC (and the PS3 exclusive challenge rooms too).
What are people feelings about which platform they are gonna get it on?

And if you meant the PC one, the PC one has achievements, so the trophies as advantage is false." played both of demo's now, the PC and PS3 one. has anyone else tried playing the game with the physX stuff enabled? " maybe if you are retard when it comes to mouse and keyboards. They game handles fine. No need for a pad. "He isn't saying that it is bad with a mouse and keyboard. It is just designed for a controller, so it feels better with one.
I was on the fence about what system to purchase this for, but the added visual flair physx on high gives is enough to make me wait for the pc version.
" I plan on checking out the demo at least, but im not very excited.... "It's not mind blowing but it is what we as well as Batman, deserves.
A fun Batman game.
