I am not one to typically post in forums, but I am fed up with internet connectivity being required for single player games. Batman: Arkham Origins is another example of how unprepared the video game industry is to handle online content. Right now I had to unplug the internet from my 360 in order to play the game. I was getting stuck on the “WBID” screen. I am not even sure why I am getting stuck on that screen, I never registered an account with them or was asked if I wanted to. Can you imagine had the XBOXONE actually implemented it original DRM plans. It would have been a disaster. I am being locked out of my game because crappy WB servers. So to anyone that isn't being allowed to play Batman: Arkham Origins after buying it, you need to deactivate internet access and it will load right up. I occasionally will hit a road bump or two with Steam, but nothing like this. I just don't understand how one company can figure it out, but the rest can't.

I would really enjoy an explanation on why companies are allowed to operate like this. I give MMO's somewhat a pass, but they are walking a very fine line. But companies like EA and WB I just find it inexcusable they operate like this. Part of me says it is our (the consumer) fault for things being this way. If we would just not buy products and vote with our dollars stuff like this wouldn't happen. But in the case of Arkham Origins, I had no way to know I was signing up to be prevented from playing my own game. I really feel blind sided and I have no recourse. I opened the game and I can't return it to the store. I am not sure what can be done, but with these big companies no one is holding them accountable. The scary thing is no one can. I suspect the consumer enjoyment of gaming will decline in order for the company to possibly squeeze an extra couple bucks out of us.

I personally haven't pirated any games, but I can imagine that they don't have to deal with this crap. It is a sad state of affairs that stealing a product has the possibility of making it superior to the exact same product that someone else purchased.

Synergy. It can be gross, but it works. They tie all their games together, and people buy more because of it.

I'm very much in agreement with this post.

I'm sick to fucking death of every goddamned publishing company having their own totally fucking useless online service that I have to sign up for every fucking time I play one of their games. Fuck you EA, fuck you Ubisoft, fuck you Rockstar and apparently now fuck you too Warner Bros.

You know what game is awesome? Dark Souls is awesome. All of the online stuff just happens without my having to type in my email address and come up with a new username and password for the umpteenth time. Not on the Internet? No fucking problem! I don't think it even notifies you if it can't connect.

I had the same problem but I just waited and it eventually went to the main menu. You shouldn't have to wait, though. I like when my games simply load up when I boot them.

the DRM is bad, really really bad. This morning hard a dozen disconnects in the single player, right now was at copperhead and then disconnect. It's not like it's socializing with fellow batman fans or some sort of special Lego Batman costume.

They just want your email, and then sell it off to some bizarre black market database for viagra ads.

It does. In fact you get automatically kicked from the game if you lose your connection while online. Granted, the game auto-saves regularly and you can you choose to keep playing offline, so it's usually not the end of the world, but it's definitely not that seamless.

Ok, so I know the 'B' in WBID is Batman, but what's the rest... Would Batman's Internet Drop? Are they taunting you? Those monsters.

That does suck though. Video games are a cruel mistress (or master. whichever, no judgement here).

You forgot Valve. Valve is a horrible company that makes you always have to be online (those who dont know, offline mode only last 7-10 days. It barely works right at that anyways)

Always online DRM is horrible and I think DRM free is the best way to go. That way you don't punish the paying customers only and they can enjoy their rightfully purchased products.

I'm suddenly starting to get really regular game crashes showing the 'No network connection' error. This is with a good quality stable connection here in the UK. Seems like any little blip during the current storms will just suddenly end the current game session without any warning on PC.
