@ZipCrash: I agree with you that Bad Company 2 was good relative to other games in the genre but expecting anything other than solid large scale multiplayer from Battlefield 3 would be ignoring what the Battlefield games have been traditionally built off of. I play more single player games than multiplayer so it is disappointing to see them fail at a campaign but the way I see it, the types of people that latch onto a game like this don't give a shit about playing by themselves, so DICE is probably better served focusing their attentions on what they do well and what will draw the crowds.

So far I'm really enjoying the campaign.

Exactly this. I loved Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and was expecting mo mo mo. That's what Battlefield 3 is. BFBC2 + Mo Mo Mo.

If you don't like Battlefield games you won't like Battlefield 3. It's like if I bought Black Ops expecting it to play like Wolfenstein and was disappointed it's a CoD game.

You're right, I do enjoy the multiplayer far more than the campaign. Sure threw me for a loop!

Jajaja every time a mayor game comes out someone always makes a bashing summary of it whether ensightful or not.

I don't think it's that silly to expect a decent quality single player from games, I actually think it's getting increasingly ridiculous that every game has such a large focus on multiplayer. Not everybody wants that, I know I'm pretty sick of these copy & pasted military themed FPS, and I can't understand why anybody would be at all interested in another one, CoD or not.

..But I don't know why you would have bought the game thinking it would be anything more.

Well guys, I didn't want to create a thread about my feelings about Battlefield 3 because I thought I would come off as trollish, but bro, you just took the cake and sat on it. I'll post my thoughts rant anyway.

The campaign just comes off as trying to copy CoD to me, and no matter how much I actually like it, it will always be a rip off to me. The coop seems so short that the only reasons it's there is to be a bullet point on the back of the box and on the menu. The multplayer is great for "Harcore shooter guy X" and his bros, but it just doesn't appeal to me, you can't screw around in a private match, and there's no vehicle training, and if I want to know how any "specializations" that I have unlocked work, I have to try them out in an actual match which means I have to hope I get to the Tank/Heli/Jet before any of my teammates and then screw around with it, hoping not to get blown up. You can't customize in between rounds, and the only way to back out is once the match has started.

This game just isn't for me, I guess.

Tempted to buy this but I LOATHE that I have to purchase it through Origin. Hell I'd pay extra just to run it through Steam.

the campaigns were never good in battlefield games, people only get the games for the multiplayer......which is awesome

@thebroken: I agree to a point. I've been playing BF since 1942 first came out and yes the big focus is on the MP. The thing is some of that stuff has carried over. The MP feels like more like COD, judging from the beta. It seems to be a lot more of twitch shooter. I'm hoping when I dig into the MP tonight that there will at least be some vehicles. There hasn't been any yet in the SP. I think the game will be worth keeping for the MP in the end but I'm also going to judge the whole package on the whole package and just on the MP.

This is a sequel to Battlefield 2. Not the Bad Company series, but the Battlefield series.

Battlefield 1 had a rockin' single player campaign. Getting in the Tardis, going to 1943, punching Hitler in the face and then putting him in the cupboard... good times. Then the platoon leader, voiced by Tom hanks, told me the secret to his rose garden back home and how he was a school teacher.

Battlefield 2's single player campaign? Oh man. When the Zentradi landed, I was like... O_o.

Or, both those games didn't even have single player campaigns. The Bad Company series introduced single player campaigns and its there that single player should have stayed. If they -had- to make a single player campaign because some EA exec said so, make it a proper tutorial, so I'm not stuck being a passenger in a chopper/plane I'm an expert at when the pilot can't get the thing up in the air without crashing because he's never flown before. The flying section of BF3's campaign is nothing more than a glorified QTE.

I'm excited though. I have a hundred hours in Bad Company 2. 0 of them spent in the single player campaign.

Battlefield 2 had plenty of haters to. Its normal.

I just want to say that I hope that we never lose the type of gameplay that is offered in Battlefield. We need a game that specializes on vehicular as well as infantry combat. I hope BF3 turns out to be a good game, and even better with some more updates in there. I tried one map during Alpha, I had fun, but yeah, Alpha is not the version I'll base my opinion on for obvious reasons.

First off, CoD and Battlefield offer two completely different online experiences. Second, the CoD campaign is not bad at all. Yes it is extremely cinematic, but each CoD campaign since CoD4 (excluding WaW's) has been memorable. @redbliss: That's exactly my point. I would argue a bit about the quality of the CoD campaign but my point is when I buy a Battlefield game I want a Battlefield game. I already have a brand new CoD game in two weeks, I don't need another CoD game called "Battlefield 3".

I quite enjoyed the campaign of BF:BC 1 & 2 and MoH and Black Ops for what they are (which is all that I've played in recent years, that's comparable SP-wise). They're the equivalent of an 80s big budget summer action flick in the vein of Rambo III. I'm sure I'd enjoy the campaigns for MW 1 & 2 & 3 too, if I felt inclined to buy into it.

Thing is, I bought neither of these games for the SP campaign. I played the campaign, because it's part of the package. It's a joyful light breeze before jumping into the deep end of the pool in multiplayer, where shit is for real.

I bought Battlefield 3 for MP and I'm sure it won't disappoint me, nor would it disappoint you, if you was open to the experience. You aren't though. At best you bought the game to feel legitimized to shit all over it.

A numbered Battlefield game should never be judged on its 'campaign'.

It was on disk 2. It was a bonus. It was surplus to requirements. It was bound to be mediocre. Shut the fuck up.

Who the hell buys Battlefield for the singleplayer? Just finished the fighter jet mission which I thought was pretty dope?

You bought a FPS game, specifically Battlefield, when we are used to the fact that mediocre 5 hours campaigns take a back seat to the multiplayer offering.

Yet another game where everyone pays attention to the Multiplayer, and not the single-player campaign, and I finally understand why. IGN's review said the Campaign was like a completely different game, filled with Quick-time sequences. I can see why this guy was really upset with this game. It looks like The single-player is an afterthought-type game mode, whereas it's really made for Multiplayer.
