A couple of days ago Obliteration mode was added to the Beta (which ends today, I believe - so get on it). It's a twist on capture the flag, with a single bomb spawning in the middle of the map, which you then have to carry/escort to bomb sites, and then blow 'em up to score a point. 3 bomb sites per faction. Here's a little video Gamespot made on it...

If you tried it, how did you like it?

P.S. It's a bit of a hassle getting on it on consoles. You need to dial in the filter to find the Obliteration servers, they don't surface otherwise.

I only managed to play one round before the beta ended, but what I've seen has tons of potential for excellent teamplay. I guess I'll have to make an effort to be a Battlefield socialite again, something which I have neglected for BF3 on PC.

It's like a capture the flag mode, but avoiding all its traditional shortcomings. Like lengthy stalemates with two turtling teams on the defense. Straightforward camping isn't a thing either, since there's three bombsites per faction. And the vehicles add a whole other layer of awesome to it.

The one flaw I've seen is that it lacks a gameclock, so really it might go on forever, if both teams are good at defending. I might just have missed it though, and it certainly will be there for PC. Dunno how much control console admins get with their rented servers.

I like it, it's like less passive mode of Rush. Like any other game mode, the fun can be ruined by having horrible teammates.

Bomb explosion time after planting could be bit longer in my opinion though.

I have to confess i never tried it. I feel like playing anything other than conquest in numbered BF games is doing it wrong. It's weird because i loved rush in the bad company games. Maybe i will give it a shot when the full game comes out.

Conceptually it's pretty cool and has the potential to be a lot of fun, but I found the matches I played to be incredibly frustrating. The spawning seems like it needs some retooling. It felt way too chaotic in a way that it was hard to understand what the hell was happening.

It may need some tweaking here and there but overall it was a fun, fast paced experience for me. It really forces teamplay, which makes it frustrating if you are in a bad team. But thats true for every gamemode. I usually prefere Rush because I like the focus it has over domination, but I can see myself playing a couple of rounds of this mode.

This mode might have actually sold me on Battlefield 4 because we had a match that went over an hour with both sides fighting over the last objectives for 30 minutes. By the end I believe I had ~45 kills and ~60 deaths, but we won. It was exhilarating. But then it was updated to include a timer that ended matches prematurely.

This actually looks really fun. I enjoyed the beta but did not get a chance to play this mode.

I skipped around the video, but is it known whether or not the bombs location once picked up is shown on the opponent's map? I think it'd be sort of interesting if it went dark once it was picked up, but with the size of the maps maybe that wouldn't make for fun gameplay.

It was alright, it was pretty much Neutral Bomb Assault from Halo 2.

I liked all the Assault variants, however Neutral Bomb was my least favorite compared the multi-bomb and single-bomb. If the groundwork for these gametypes are already in BF4 hopefully they will add the other two types, if not I probably won't play it.
