GameTrailers has the first trailer for DICE's upcoming sequel, Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Let's watch and discuss:

That's a very multiplayer-focused trailer, which if you'll allow me to be a Monday Morning Marketing Man for a moment here, isn't at all how I'd position Bad Company 2. Yes, the original game had multiplayer, and it was great multiplayer... but great multiplayer isn't what sets Bad Company apart from the 20 other shooters released every 15 seconds.

The original Bad Company made a name for itself because it had character. Characters, in fact. The members of Bad Company--Sweetwater, Haggard, The Sarge, and Marlowe (that's you)--cracked jokes and talked shit in an impressively non-macho way throughout the course of the game. As a big fan of the first Bad Company, the first thing I want to see out of Bad Company 2 is the cast. Show me B-Company all knotted up in some unwinnable situation, let Haggard say something about monster trucks or about how something "smells very clean," then show a bunch of buildings getting blown apart to remind people that the destructible portions of the first game are still pretty much unmatched. Bang, pow, coming in 2009, fade to black.

Or, I guess, "coming in TBA." No release info has been announced yet. But we do know that it'll be coming to the PC this time, as well as making a return to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Either way, expect to see and hear more on Bad Company 2 soon and expect me to continue to be excited about it.

not that great of a trailer really. i was hoping for something at least resmebling gameplay, and all of the blood splatter effects kind of make me wonder if DICE is trying to go for an M rating with this one. i certainly hope that they aren't. a blood and gore descriptor would kinda ruin the playful attitude that the first game achieved.

I just wish it were more like BF2 or that they'd skip this and make BF3 (for PC, then port it to consoles). Also they should definitely make it 64 players (real BF style), at last for PC, though I quess it'd be really difficult to make maps for both those numbers unless done BF2 style but you know that isn't really scaling but something something.......  IMO a BF game without those  ~50-64+ player  matches really isn't that much different from other online shooters (those numbers give them the battlefield'-y WAR feeling cuz of all thats going on). To me lets say COD4 is a wonderful online FPS but not really a war game (MP aspect of it) cuz the small player numbers and maps just don't feel like war is going on.

I personally hated Bad companies multiplayer and its characters were forgettable and lame.

you had your self the unsure new soldier, then the token black fatherly figure, the explosives guy that liked explosives, the gun toting shoot em shoot em shoot em, and the nerdy com specialists.

Multiplayer every match was the same attacking team if good rush forward with tanks and shoot the crates engineers shoot em with rockets and ever one else cover and you could never lose and quite often the first batch of crates would be destroyed and by the time you spawned at the next base the enemy had all ready rushed that.
Then theres the fact like every single Battle field game multiplayer was comprised of pretty much the same map every time i cannot remember the names but battle field 2 it was the one desert mosk level and bad company it was pretty much the same level.

I liked Bad Company's single-player, but the multiplayer pretty much was staying point for me with the game.  The story and characters were funny, but if I didn't want to see what happened with them (oh, and get achievements), I wouldn't have stuck with that game's not-so-good single-player.  Multiplayer, though, is one of the best Battlefield experiences out there, and I say this as someone's who's been with the series since 1942.

ummm, looks interesting, I hope they actually incorporate a wee bit of gore in the game.... cause the whole "dust blood" was very retarded, but I agree with the review, we already have Call of Duty, Battlefield Bad Company is better off not being serious cause that's what made it so awesome. Like in one of the levels when your driving a humvee and there's explosions going off all over the area and your thinking to yourself: "Ah crap, I'm gonna die again...." you suddenly hear Haggard yell: "It would've been better if we had a Truckasauras Rex!!!" and you just burst out laughing at the ridiculously random comment.

Just for clarification, there was no "Gun toting shoot em... etc" considering that there were only four squad mates (yourself included.) In fact, the person with the heaviest weapon was the "nerdy comm specialist" who wasn't a comm specialist and just happened to wear glasses. Also, Haggard may have liked explosives, but he was basically just loony, and tended to use his shotgun more often than not anyway.

Me either, and I agreed with Jeff I would like to now whats going down with B Company this time round before I start too as well. I liked the first Bad Company a lot and none of that was because of the multiplayer.

The "1942" thing was pretty funny, if not cheesy. I'm glad this one is coming to PC, and as a really big fan of the first I'd like to see this one have 4P coop online, or at least some sort of cooperative play.

    Very MadWorld styling imo.

Other than that, hopefully it's a good game. EA need to get their act together and decide what they want for the franchise though. We've got Battlefield Heroes, Battlefield 1943 and this coming. And they'll probably make a Battlefield 3, and add a sequel to 2142 on top.

Heroes is understandable to exist as it goes for a different feel, but the rest? Just focus the resources on one game and make it the best it can be instead, and you can do the other elements via DLC, they're bound to milk that aspect anyway.

Ah yes. DICE always makes great use of the sub frequencies. I am now torn between buying this for PC, with all my favorite FPS games... or on Xbox 360 with my friends list. I'll probably get this for PC and 1943 for 360 since more of my friends list is likely to pick it up than a full priced game.

Still would rather have a full PC BF3.

If you had told me this was  a Battlefield 3 trailer, I would have believed you with the upmost confidence.

But I'm sorry, that is not what Bad Company 2 should look like. The multiplayer in the first game wasn't even that great!

    WOO!
I actually really enjoyed Bad Company, it's odd that its coming out for PC though.
I would have thought that Battlefield 3 would be in the works by now.
This trailer was clearly made just to get Bad Company into the press headlines so, people that read sites like this will remember that Bad Company 2 is coming.

Haggard was in that trailer. You gotta look closely in the part with the jeep and you'll see him in the passenger seat. This must be their way of reassuring us that they're still in the game.

Either way, this would have been better if it were centered on the characters.

errr...the multiplayer was the reason why I played it, i know the story was good and characters were awesome, it's just the multiplayer was amazing, when i could actually find a game that worked...that is why i am super glad this is coming to the PC.

I mean it might not make sense enitrely for the "Bad Company series", but for the Battlefield series? yes, focusing the trailer on multiplayer makes enough sense to me, it's what "old school" fans would expect.

I just bought BF:BC the other day and am really enjoying it both SP & MP so if it's more of the same in the next game that will be cool, but this trailer was terrible you learn nothing from it, how about game companies start showing gameplay footage in there trailers again. -_-
