Overview

Beethoven: The Ultimate Canine Caper, known in-game as Beethoven's 2nd, is a comedic side-scrolling platformer developed by Riedel Software Productions and published by Hi-Tech Expressions for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System on December 1993. It also received a DOS PC conversion by Rozner Labs Software Group.
A video game tie-in with the 1993 American family comedy film Beethoven's 2nd, Beethoven puts players in control of the titular St. Bernard dog as he scours the neighborhood for his four missing puppies.
It also received a European-exclusive handheld Game Boy adaptation in Europe, developed by Unexpected Development and known simply as Beethoven. This version has different levels and gameplay mechanics, where instead of finding each puppy, players have to cause various forms of mayhem to get a dog catcher to send Beethoven to the pound to rescue his puppies.
Gameplay
Beethoven's main attack is his loud barking, which releases supersonic waves that can devastate man or beast. Barks can be "charged" by growling, resulting in even greater destructive power. Beethoven can also shake water off of his body, once soaked by a sprinkler or other water fixture, in order to hurt enemies.
Each level challenges the player to rescue one of Beethoven and Missy's puppies, and is divided into 2 stages each. In the first stage the objective is to get to the puppy while in the second, Beethoven must carry the puppy back to Missy.
