Walton's rise to fame began at college where he won three successive College Player of the Year Awards with the UCLA Bruins. In the NBA he won two NBA championships at different stages of his career: One with the Portland Trail Blazers in 1977, and one with the Boston Celtics in 1986. He was voted NBA MVP in 1978, and NBA Finals MVP in 1977. He is the only player in the history of the NBA to have won an NBA MVP, regular season MVP, and Sixth Man Award.
His career was significantly hampered by multiple foot injuries, but he is still considered by many to be the greatest passing center of all time.
Walton was inducted into the Naismith Memoerial Basketball Hall of Fame on May 10, 1993.
