I think adding a jump button isn't all that bad.
Bionic Commando Rearmed 2
Game » consists of 3 releases. Released Feb 01, 2011
Nathan "Rad" Spencer returns with the ability to jump and a snazzy moustache, in order to face an evil general bent on launching a missile strike.
Should Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 have a jump button?
I know some people who say "well the this-gen Bionic Commando had a jump and it sucked and there was a game boy one that had a jump and it sucked..." It's a logical fallacy, really, but i know people would be concerned
I think it's addition is fine.
"Purity" can kiss my ass, if they do it right and it's fun it's the right thing to do.
ps: I'd consider myself a pretty big fanboy of the original and Rearmed.
" yeah it's cool. would make for some fun challenges. "By "fun" I assume you mean infuriating, hair-pulling, and cursing at the TV? :P
" @Romination: No I don't think it would ruin the game at all. Some of the "hardcore" bionic commando fans probably would rather the jump button not exist. I was just curious about what people think "Funny thing is, it took so long to get a new Bionic Commando game that, as a huge fan, I'm just glad Rearmed happened - and is happening again.
Pretty sure that's just a normal reflex." I never played it on the NES and it baffles me that there wasn't a jump button. When playing rearmed it was hard to get used to not being able to jump in a platforming game "
I played the original A LOT on the NES and it was still weird when first starting Rearmed.
No jump button. I just want it to jump constantly to make up for the lack of jumping in the first one!
I'll vote no on this one. I think it is a good thing but the "no" option deserves a little more love since the lack of jumping wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it was a bit frustrating at the beginning because games in which you can't jump are a rarity, but once you got used to it, it actually felt like a unique "feature" (for the like of a better word) of the game.
It didn't bother me that much.
" I guess the secondary question to this thread is will this game sell or did people just buy rearmed b/c of their nostalgia for the original bionic commando. My guess is that it will do OK, but not as good as BCR1 "You're probably right, tho I will definitely be buying it.
I think it makes sense that there was no jump button because a bionic arm would be HEAVY AS HELL. He'd need legs of steel just to walk with that thing, but to jump with it? As if.
" Not having a jump function was and is an integral part of the gameplay. It was intentionaly done for the purpose of making the bionic arm the main mechanic. If you want a jump button, play another game that has it. "But I wanna jump in Bionic Commando!" ~ Fucking Whiners "Jesus fucking necro bump.
Also, I agree with you in principle and that's why Rearmed 1 didn't need a jump, but then how do you feel about Rearmed 2 having jump and being designed around having to combine jumping and swinging?
Adam Boyes, who was involved in the development of the game in the early stages, blogged about it here. Everything he says makes total sense, and I have to say that adding a jump button seems like a good idea. I'll have to play the game before passing final judgement on it though - having a cemented opinion on any game mechanic before you've actually played the game is fucking dumb.
