A very underappreciated melee combat game

Blade of Darkness (AKA Severance) may be the most underrated game I ever game across.

BOD is a third person game, and the reason while I did not say shooter is because BOD is one of those rare games which tried to pull off medieval (fantasy) melee combat in real-time. Many games tried and so far, none has succeded (Die by the Sword, Rune, even Age of Conan). Yet, BOD manages to make melee fighting not only accessible but a huge fun and creating a very immersive game, pitting you face to face (literally) against all sorts of fantasy evils, such as Orcs, Goblins and Skeletons (old school).

The graphics are amazing, especially the lighting maps which create an astonishing realism. The animations are slick, and the damage system as brutal as a game like this calls for. Severed arms, severed heads, you get the picture.<br />

You can choose from four different characters which all come with different abilites and special moves. Another revolutioary thing about this 3rd person "action" game is the RPG aspect of it, which I have not seen in any other game since and before. Your character levels up, unlocks special abilites and there are many weapons to be looted. From Swords, to shields, bows, axes and so on.
Needless to say, the atmosphere is fantastic as well !

One of my favourite games ever made, you should not miss it

I believe this fits the criteria of becoming a hidden gem, and deserves to eventually be considered a classic. This game reminds me of the Souls series. Both are known for their extreme difficulty when it comes to combat. One mistake could easily mean death. However, I find this game to be even ...
