Overview
Blastoise is the final evolutionary stage of Squirtle, and evolves from Wartortle at level 36. It is much larger than Wartortle, with a large shell and water cannons protruding from it's back. These cannons can fire water at very high pressure with great accuracy, doing huge damage to anything they hit. Blastoise looks like a large blue turtle, but like Squirtle and Wartortle it is capable of standing upright on its hind legs and walking. Blastoise is commonly found amongst trainers because of its power and reliability - In the pokemon Anime cartoon Ash's rival Gary has a Blastoise.
As a Water-type Pokémon, Blastoise is weak against Electric and Grass-type moves, taking 100% more damage from these types of attacks. However, it only takes 50% of standard damage from Fire, Water, Ice, and Steel-type moves.
Blastoise first appears in the Pokémon game series in versions Red & Blue, as the final evolutionary stage of one of the three starter Pokémon, Squirtle.
It first appears in the Anime Cartoon series in episode 60 ("Beach Blank-Out Blastoise"). In this episode, a group of Squirtle and Wartortle were distressed because their leader, a Blastoise, had mysteriously fallen asleep and wouldn't wake up.
Blastoise is also featured in the game Super Smash Bro's Melee, where he can appear out of a player-thrown Pokéball. Once he has appeared, he will use his Hydro Pump attack, blasting powerful water in horizontal jets across the stage. The power of its water jets will push Blastoise back slightly after each shot, meaning if Blastoise is close enough to a ledge it can push itself off the stage.
Evolution
Blastoise is the final of three evolutions of Squirtle. Squirtle evolves from Wartortle at level 16, and Wartortle evolves into Blastoise at level 36.
Mega Evolution
Mega Blastoise In Generation 6, Blastoise has gained the ability to Mega Evolve by holding the item Blastoisenite. Mega Blastoise loses his shoulder cannons which are then replaced one giant cannon on his back. Additionally, he gains two small cannons on his wrists.
Mega Blastoise gains stat boosts in all categories except speed. He gains the ability Mega Launcher, which powers up Aura and Pulse type moves by 50%, except Heal Pulse, which is enhanced by 75%.
