Overview
The Blood Elves were introduced to
World of Warcraft as a playable race for the
Horde in the
Burning Crusade expansion pack. The introduction of the Blood Elves allowed Horde players to play as
Paladins for the first time.
Within the lore the Blood Elves are former
Highborne Elves that dabbled in magic and became addicted to it's qualities, changing their eyes from blue to fel green as we know them today. Living away from the magical forest where they were first born their skin was turned to a pale peach color. The Blood Elves were lead by
Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, who wanted to help his people conquer their magical addiction. He sought help from
Illidan Stormrage, a
demon who promised them the freedom they needed. It was later revealed to the Elves that it was impossible for them to receive a cure, and that the damage had been done. Kael'thas then went to search for a cure on his own, leaving his people behind. Currently the Blood Elves live in
Silvermoon City in the north of the
Eastern Kingdoms, and are lead by Regent
Lor'themar Theron.
