Early in Central Yarnham there is a unit which drops a Tempering Blood Gemstone; he is basically the first large enemy you run into. The first time I killed him, I also died so I couldn't loot. The next time I killed him, he only dropped 5 potions :(

I am telling myself its not a big deal to miss out on this drop, fighting the urge to restart. I imagine this stuff might happen again anyway. Has anyone else ran into a similar issue? Im a Souls newbie, so I'm trying not to sweat the small stuff.

tempering blood gemstones seem like regular drops later on, I wound't worry about it.

They drop like candy off a number of enemies the further you get. You aren't missing anything. The one he drops isn't even any good, almost any you find will have better bonuses than that one.

Does anyone know what the gatling gun guy on the roof drops? I had him at like 10% health and he side-dashed his ass off the edge, dropping an item in a place I couldn't reach.

@cale: Same thing happened to me. I climbed up the tower later and there was an item sitting right next to the Gatling gun. I forget what it was, but you should be able to go back there and get it.

He drops a badge. Essentially the ability to purchase two new weapons in the Dream. You should reset the world and go back up there, chances are the drop will reset to the top where you can access it.

Update: Yep, the item was sitting there beside the gun.
