Hey all. So. I am now at the point of fighting Amelia, and after dieing a couple times i decided to go elsewhere. I went to the right of her, and faced those two special enemies. I killed the electric guy, but the guy with the special gun lived. I decided to just run past him and explore, and i ended up below that area near some giants and normal enemies. After killing them, i walked inside a building where it was a large circular room. I tried to open the door in the room, and out of nowhere a 50 foot ghost picks me up and kills me. What just happened?

Without spoiling too much, when you came back to life did you start at the lantern you initially were at or did you start somewhere else? I am not 100% sure if this is true or not but I believe you need a certain time on you when that thing kills you and you'll be taken somewhere else in the game.

Either way it was a Great One. From what I gathered, the Church of Healing revered them as gods for some reason. One of the Great Ones is responsible for all the beasthood and you fight him in the true ending.

I see. I believe it took me back to the Cathedral Ward lantern. So basically its something I'm not meant to deal with atm, and instead come back later?

@enragedstump: It is entirely optional, but yes. The creature you speak of will kill you right now. You will need a certain item and it will still heavily damage you, but also teleport you someplace new. You have not obtained that item yet, since you'll need to kill Amelia first and then go through the next area that opens up. In that area a NPC gives you the item if you talk to him.
