Game » consists of 12 releases. Released Oct 15, 2002

A half-human, half-vampire secret agent in a tight leather outfit uses guns and razor-sharp tonfa blades to wreak bloody havoc against Nazis seeking supernatural artifacts. Best premise ever? Perhaps.

Hanssen's Review for BloodRayne for the Game Cube

My review of BloodRayne for the Game Cube.   BloodRayne is made by Majesco Games in association with Terminal Reality.   My review is below:

Well this game is the first game I bought and it is Rayne that got me back to playing video games since I had the Sega Genesis.   Thanks Rayne and Majesco for doing that.

Rayne is a half-human/half-vampire hybrid known as a dhampir.

BloodRayne is the first game where she starts her never ending quest to find and kill Kagan her father.   This game takes place somewhere in the World War 2 era.   Where she learns how to use her powers from another dhampir named Mynce.   Mynce is her mentor, teacher, and friend.   The game starts in Louisiana then goes to Argentina then ends in Germany.   Mynce teaches her abilities in Louisiana.   In this game she is an agent of the Brimstone Society an organization that investigates and eliminates anything paranormal as in Werewolves, other vampires, and any other monsters that threaten humans and human life.   In Argentina she is given a list of Nazi Officers and Scientists to kill them.

She encounters Supreme Commander Jurgen Wulf and Beliar in the end of the game and kills them both.

     Game play:

The game play is very nice.   She gains abilities and moves in the course of the game by killing select individuals.   She has these powers:

    Aura Vision:
Simular to heat sensing IR vision.  This view mode allows Rayne to see enemies behind walls and other forms of cover.

    Blood Rage:
Rayne temporarily moves faster, hits for more damage, and performs different more violent attacks with her blades.

    Dilated Perception:
Think  vampire bullet  time and you've got a pretty good idea.

    Extruded View:
Think of it as an targeting system where it gives Rayne better accuracy in using weapons.

She uses weapons of the period like handguns, shotguns, machine guns, sub machine guns, RPG’s, Assault Rifles, Heavy Weapons, Grenade style weapons, and bombs.

She comes up against Daemites that are parasitic creatures that are annoying as hell.

The only futuristic vehicle is a World War 2 style Mecha called Mobile Armor.   Which is slow and can cause Rayne to die even if she is in the vehicle.

She uses a Harpoon type weapon to launch at an enemy and either uses it to drag someone to feed on or to use it as an long-range attack weapon.

Game play is basically looking at her from the top down.   You can’t see her front unless she is in a cinematic.   It’s mostly straightforward and she has limited amount of ammo and if she gets overwhelmed she needs to feed a lot.

    Graphics:

Well the graphics are ok but somewhat polygonal.   The enemy faces are recycled and re-used.   The cinematics are excellent and the cut scenes are ok.   She can sometimes walk through doors that are opened.

    Sound:

The audio is ok and the voice-overs are also ok as well.

Ratings (1 Bad to 10 good):

    Game play:   7.0
    Graphics:      7.5
    Audio:            7.5
    Plot:               7.0

    Average:       7.25
