Overview
Bombastic, known in Japan as XI Go (pronounced "sái") and as XI [sái] Go, is a 3D action-puzzle game developed by Shift and published by Sony Computer Entertainment (Capcom outside of Japan) for the PlayStation 2 in Japan on December 19, 2002, in North America on August 27, 2003, and in Europe on January 16, 2004.
The third game in the XI series and the sequel to the PS1 games Devil Dice and XI Jumbo, Bombastic features a new cel-shaded art style and a new gameplay style where creating groups of dice causes them to instead prime themselves to detonate, destroying themselves (and those above them) while priming certain tiles caught in its blast (based on the face value). The gameplay styles of Devil Dice (as "Classic") and XI Jumbo (as "Advanced") are unlockable.
Rather than the Puzzle mode of previous games, the game includes a new single-player adventure mode known as Quest, in which the five Aqui-Chan brothers (the red Rossi, the blue Azul, the yellow Huang, the green Verds, and the pink baby Momo) venture out to find their grandfather.
Gameplay
The player is put in control of Aqui-chan, who walks along the face of a field of dice that rotate as she moves from die to die. The aim is to line up a number of like dice to match the number on the face. For example, to clear the number five, you align five adjacent dice with the number five facing up.
Properly aligned dice will explode and also remove any adjacent dice that are one digit lower than the aligned dice. The campaign mode also adds enemy characters to the game board which can be defeated by exploding dice.
The game supports up to five-player multi-player via multi-tap.
