Two brothers are on a search for a cure for their dying father.
Are there 10 games better than brothers this year?
Brothers is objectively the greatest game that has ever been made or will ever be made.
Sorry other video games. Better pack it up.
@video_game_king: listen to the bombcast
This thread made me realise something kinda crazy. My initial thought was "Have I even played 10 games that came out this year?" but then I realised that I don't think I've actually played a single game that has come out this year if you don't count a release on a new system for a game that had previously released elsewhere >.>
Oh well, that'll change with Saints Row IV.
This is a troll thread, isn't it?
It's a trophyhunter thread. So... close enough. Just as worthless anywhoo.
If anyone here listens to GWJ, you know Mr. Sands is basically on the same page as Brad. Mr. McElroy also really loves the game so I don't think Brad is that out to lunch.
@geraltitude: what's gwj?
I won't play till it's on PC, but I have a hard time believing it will be better than:
@spraynardtatum: Gamers With Jobs. It's the best podcast about games IMO, as far as podcasts with actual structure go (vs. the wild behemoth that is da bombcast).
I won't play till it's on PC, but I have a hard time believing it will be better than:
Destiny isn't coming out until 2014.
@kidavenger: I keep forgetting about Beyond: Two Souls.
That game looks batshit.
I voted Yes; but at the same time, I want to stand up for Brad by saying he was totally right about comparing games of different genres is like comparing apples and oranges - General Top 10 lists only makes sense when you accept that you can't define each next one in the list as directly better or worse, just more specific to the wants/needs of the person at the time that they played it.
I can see how this game would end up on Brad's list. Sure other games could replace it on a list this year, but knowing how his lists go this could easily take a high spot on it.
Even if you don't count the $50-$60 games, I think things like Antichamber and Papers, Please are easily on par with Brothers. Kentucky Route Zero continues to be amazing, though it isn't likely to finish by the end of 2013.
Though now that I list them off, I guess I can't think of quite as many really top-drawer indie games this year. I still have yet to play The Swapper. What else am I missing?
To clarify, it's not 10 games this year, it's 10 more games that haven't come out yet. Brad was saying he was confident Brothers would make his top 10 list, which means there wouldn't be 10 games coming out that could knock Brothers all the way off his list.
Personally, no. Brothers is in a solid second place for me, behind Kentucky Route Zero. And I haven't really seen anything on the new consoles that I even want to play (maybe Watch_Dogs, but I'm still not that sold on it), nevermind a game I'd enjoy more than Brothers.
Maybe Gone Home will beat it, but I can't think of anything else at the moment.

Well, Destiny is not out this year, and yes, it is probably better than most of those games except, Last of Us, GTAV and maybe Heart of the Swarm. Batman? Devil May Cry? Are you serious bro?
In terms of what I've played/what I'm excited to play, probably no. My favorite games of the year so far are:
- Year Walk
- Brothers
- Bioshock Infinite
- Gone Home
- Hotline Miami (Vita) - I'm counting this as a 2013 release.
- Kentucky Route Zero
- Tomb Raider
I've had others I've enjoyed - and I've spent a lot of 2013 wrapping up this generation of games by playing things I missed. I assume fall will bring a few more, but I'll be shocked if Brothers gets knocked off that list.
Haven't played Brothers, but if I had to make a top ten list right now, it would be pretty rough if I made a list of games I played or think will be good.

This list is a great example of why top 10 lists are fucking stupid. How do you compare Starcraft to GTA to Forza to Brothers?
Glad I searched around for this, as I was going to make a thread. Can't answer the poll, as I'm not sure if it's asking my opinion, or if by Brad's standards, or even by Metacritic...
Speaking of, according to everyone's favorite aggregator, there already are more than ten games better than Brothers. In order of my own damn subjective standards of what would be most hard to argue against:
The Last of Us
Dota 2
Bioshock Infinite
Papers, Please
Gone Home
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Guacamelee
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Year Walk
The Swapper
Pikmin 3
Bit.Trip.Runner 2
MLB 13: The Show
... with Tomb Raider "on the bubble" (one version above, one juuust below) and Heart of the Swarm debatable (is it DLC? An add-on? *shrug*)
Anyway, I think Brad will (stubbornly) keep the game on his own list, but I don't see Brothers being very well represented on anywhere else. If the Giant Bomb community were to vote again (like they used to do) I'd be placing bets on whether it would make the top 20, not the top 10.
The question I'm most interested in is whether anything released on the new consoles will be better than it. I think there will be, and that was the more crazy statement that came out of Brad's mouth, in my opinion.
@duffyside: Why would Brad be "stubborn" to keep Brothers on his list?
It's not like Brothers is a bad game, you guys. I'm anticipating it taking a position in Brad's list.
I think that Brotherz resonated more with some people than it did others, and since the story is one of the main parts of that games, your enjoyment of the game relies almost entirely on it.
I think its a dumb statement if you just talking about better games in general. But if brad is talking his personal 10 than who knows. But you could easily list 10 awesome games that would be considered better than brothers now.
I haven't played it yet, but from what I seen, yeah there is or will be at least 10 better games in my opinion, but I think that game seems decent, story wise, maybe. Eh.
I don't see what this was such a crazy statement by Brad. It's easy to play something and be like, yeah this will probably be in my top ten games this year. I played DMC in January and knew it would probably stick in my top ten. And so far it has! Can't see it falling out. Doesn't really say anything about the state of games, it just means you know what you like.
Unfortunately, I'm not one of those deep artistic gamers who thinks Gone Home, Brothers, Journey and older titles like Braid and Limbo are the best thing ever. I never got into these 3 hours-long games.
Also, Brother's ending can be guessed right before you play the game. And that right there is a big problem to me. Turned the ending in that '' I knew it '' twist for shock value.
