lol at the kids torn up over Bungie going to Activision.

FWIW, the few of us that were playing games on a mac 10 years ago (yeah, it happened) pretty much know how you feel. When we found out that the Mac only developer of  things like Marathon 1, 2, 3 Myth I, II, and Oni, had been co-opted by the evil empire, there was a lot of teeth gnashing, etc. Just because they've been doing Halo for the last several years doesn't mean that's all they know, or want. Also, as Jimbo said, having a dev with enough clout to have at least an even deal with a publisher is a good thing.

Bungie will be fine. I don't picture them signing any contract that doesn't leave them in total control of their product.

Selling their souls? This deal seems to me like it would've been more like Bungie calling the shots and Activision saying "Yes sir", "As you wish sir".

Obviously this is all outta my ass and I could be wrong, but Bungie's got a pretty strong hand.

    We'll see.

How does Bobby K treat his people this way and still ink deals with the best studios? It's one of two things: 1.) Life at ActiBlizz really isn't that bad and they pay you a TON of coin. 2.) Bobby K has a deal with the devil and can't go wrong in the business world no matter how many mistakes he makes.

I think people are missing a bit here. Bungie is staying independent and keeping control of their IP, Activision is simply publishing their games. They aren't selling their souls or anything, they're just partnering with a company that can get their new games out to as many players as possible.

Sure, this has the potential to turn bad, but that doesn't mean it necessarily will.  All in all, for me this just means Bungie games on my PS3, so I'm more or less okay with it.

Perhaps it's because he doesn't treat employees or studios poorly when they do their job? Everyone has been assuming IW are in the right with regard to the multitude of lawsuits being filed but I don't think many have taken a step back to appreciate that perhaps Activision are in the right. I mean if Bungie are still willing to sign on the dotted line after hearing and reading and no doubt investigating all of the IW vs Activision stuff, then hell I think that says something loud and clear to me.

@walkingcarpet:  Except activision is funding it. And thus calls the shots. They say the maps have to be sold for £10, they say bungie needs a IW.NET 2.0 to sell to PC users and they say they need to push them out yearly.

Activision have all the power. Bungie have just screwed themselves over. Oh well! Another game I'll ignore. Think I'm one of the only people that stuck to the whole "not buying MW2" thing. RIP Bungie.

This makes me sad. I really need to stop paying attention/caring about the business side of games. It's not anything worth getting emotionally invested in. And yet here I am, feeling pretty gross and sad about this announcement, and the general childishness of the entire IW/Actiblizzard/EA/Bungie mess. Ah well.

Originally, I thought this was crazy-go-nuts, but since I've had some time to let it sink in, I think it's just "screwy".  Bungie will basically just be using Activision as  publisher and get to keep all their cake, too.  I'm guessing it will work something like the EA partners program.   But, I don't trust Activision to leave Bungie alone.  If they get a hit, Activision has a history of grinding the franchise into the ground and bleeding it dry.  Bungie may say they have autonomy, but I wonder how quickly Bobby Kotick and his band of banditos will try and strong-arm them in directions they don't want to go.  Activision was supposed to leave Blizzard alone, too but they've been positioning their people inside that studio for a while now.

Well I also believe britney spears is total shit, despite it being a very polished "project" with a shitload of effort put into it... I don't really get what you are trying to say here. Alot of effort goes into everything, even torture....
